The fans had to hold their breath right until the end in Cuneo as the hosts were pegged back to 2-2 after having built an early 2-0 lead. The tie-break was tight and ended level at 14, when Mastrangelo stroke twice from the serve to give Cuneo the win.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti): “We faded in the third and we can’t afford to do that. We have been lucky tonight. After the fourth set, we told ourselves that we had to forget it all and start from scratch because in this fifth set we have to fight on every single point”.

Perugia: No comment after the game

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – PRISMA TARANTO 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-15) –

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 10, Gallosti (L), Portuondo Juantorena 14, Zygadlo 2, Vissotto Neves 17, Sala 5, Sokolov 1, Corsini 5, Herpe, Bari (L). Dnp Birarelli, Vieira De Oliveira, Fedrizzi. Coach. Stoytchev Radostin.

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 7, Ricciardello (L), Candellaro 2, Montagna (L), Cozzi 8, Moretti, Suxho 2, Rodrigo Pinto 16, Abbadi 7, Spescha. Dnp Elia, Westphal, Quartarone. Coach. Montagnani Paolo.

Trentino made it five consecutive wins at home at the expense of Taranto, beaten in straight sets. 15 points out of 15 in the last 12 days! The battle lasted for just one set, the first. Taranto tried to run away (19-15) but was quickly pegged back because of too many mistakes in attack and at the net. They could hardly tickle the unstoppable Vissotto (17 poits with 59% at the net) and Juantorema, the MVP of the game who decided the first set with a couple of decisive spikes.

The same Juantorema had the three thousand fans going with 4 aces in the third. Good performances as well from Zygadlo and Corsini, who were sent in the starting six by coach Stoytchev to give some rest to Raphael and Birarelli. As for Taranto, only Rivaldo did fine (16 points and 54%) but the Brazilian got little help from his teammates.

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We did well to keep a high level of intensity throughout to take more important points. Besides, Zygadlo and Corsini played the whole game and had extremely positive performances, just like the rest of the team. We never lowered our guards and despite a few mistakes we were always in control of the game”.

Paolo Cozzi (Prisma Taranto): “We gifted them the first set, which in my opinion we deserved to win. Then, we lost our way and you can’t do that, because then you can lose 3-0 against these teams away. We have to show a different attitude, not like what we did in the second half of the game”.

YOGA FORLI’ – COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA 0-3 (21-25, 18-25, 19-25) –

YOGA FORLI’: Mengozzi, Coscione 1, Carrol 4, Popp 13, Stancu 5, Ainsworth 5, Gjorgiev, De Pandis (L), Bianchi (L), Casadei 4, Bacci, Kolev 2. Dnp Da Massa Nicola. Coach. Molducci Piero.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Mazza (L), Meoni 2, Marshall 14, Grassano, Boninfante, Sequeira 2, Zlatanov 10, Durante (L), Bravo 5, Oivanen 2, Urnaut 8, Bjelica 11. Dnp Rak. Coach. Lorenzetti Angelo.

The difference was clear between Forli and Piacenza. Apart from the first set, the Italian champions conceded very little space to manoeuvre to their opponent. The second and third set were one-way traffic, with Piacenza sending its bench players on court. Popp was Forli’s leader, while Meoni guided Piacenza, which continues to extend its winning streak.

Graydon  Ainsworth (Yoga Forlì): “An almost impossible challenge. We did our best but Piacenza is a lot better. We had to make a few changes and we did what we could”.

Novica Bjelica (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “The important thing was to stay focused. We played our game, we lost something on the way against Macerata but tonight we did well”.

Monza obtained a third consecutive win at home and remains unbeaten in its PalaIper gym. It defeated Latina in straight sets. Berruto said he preferred substance over entertaining play but his boys gave him a near-perfect performance. In the first set, a feverish Gavotto took charge before the whole team came on son to destroy the opponent, putting on a great show and enjoying themselves.

Jean-Francois Exiga (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “I think this has been our best game since the start of the championship. We played to perfection in every part of the game, everything went well. These three points are really crucial for the continuation of our league campaign”.

Leondino Giombini (Andreoli Latina): “We have to be humble and work hard in the gym to try to organise our game better and improve”.

SISLEY TREVISO – TRENKWALDER MODENA 1-3 (25-19, 24-26, 20-25, 21-25) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 20, Horstink 12, Papi 5, Farina (L), Kohut, De Togni 10, Bontje 9, Maruotti 12, Vanin (L), Garcia 2. Dnp Sabbi, Cuda. Coach. Piazza Roberto.

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Ciabattini (L), Kooistra 10, Dennis 30, Biribanti, Esko 2, Meszaros 5, Casoli 10, Diaz Mayorca 6, Piscopo 6. Dnp Soli, Pagni, Kooy. Coach. Prandi Silvano.

Treviso was beaten 1-3 by Modena in the 7th round of the A1. This is its second defeat of the season and the first one at home. Treviso will be rested on Sunday.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “It’s a shame, I think Modena played an excellent game, while Treviso didn’t. This doesn’t mean we were poor. We did well in the first set, the second slipped away from our grasp because of a wrong judgement of mine: I took Papi off in order to be taller at the net with Horstink, maybe things would have gone better without a change. From that moment on, we lost our way, we did not face the game as it should have been anymore: This should normally not happen, but unfortunately sometimes it does. The second set might have been on our mind, we’ll also have to work on the psychological aspect from tomorrow”.

Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “We might have had a little bit of luck at the end of the second set, but that gave us great confidence for the rest of the game. This win means above all three points to stay towards the top of the league table and this gives confidence to the group in the work we are doing”.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 2-3 (25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 19-25, 11-15) –

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino 9, Perez Moreno, Roberts 4, Modica, Lampariello (L), Henrique 4, Sborgia 3, Di Franco 9, Perazzolo 21, Ereu 15, Armeti (L), Gradinarov 11. Dnp Centorame. Coach. Brutti Alessandro.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli (L), Groppi, Sottile 2, Della Lunga 12, Lasko 17, Kovar 5, Curti 5, Holt 2, Galabinov, Colaci (L), Kromm 22, Howard 9. Dnp Peslac. Coach. Bagnoli Bruno.

Despite the defeat, the Pineto players left the court heads high, as it forced Verona to a tie-break. Pineto could even be disappointed not to sealed a victory early when they were 2-0 up. The hosts dominated indeed the first two sets, playing brilliantly and leaving Verona with no answers. The guest reacted in the third as Brutti’s boys vanished physically and mentally. The momentum of the game completely turned around letting Verona celebrating the win at the fifth set.

Alessandro Brutti (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “It’s a shame because we played face to face with a very strong team, but we just couldn’t get the win. We played to perfection in the first two sets, then they stepped up, and we faded as the game went on, physically and mentally. At least we added a point to our tally in the table, which this is a good omen for the future”.

Diego Flisi (Marmi Lanza Verona): “This was a important win against a Pineto team that lined up its starting six for the first time this season. We played extremely poorly in the first two sets, but we did not gave up and the victory is all the more important for that reason. Pineto is a team that will make it difficult for the others in their own gym. They might not be at the top technically but they make up for that with abnegation and sacrifice”.
