In the quarter final first leg of the Italian Cup A2, Bologna played host to Santa Croce, who are the big favourite to go through to the next round. Still, the team of coach Alberti, who decided to start the game with libero Simone Maggioli and spiker Goran Bjelica, played face to face right until the end, forcing Santa Croce to play a tie-break, and losing out on the minimum margin.
The return game will be on Wednesday 21 January at 8.30 in Santa Croce.
