Andrea Giani won its first cup as coach. In front of 4700 supporters, his Roma team swept the Bologna of Hugo Conte, former teammate in many challenges.

The final was a good game but only in flashes. The stake was too high and the pressure on court too. Roma was to better team to handle it thanks to its attack, with Zaytsev (man of the match with 58% in attack), Poey (top scorer with 19) and Portuondo. Bologna struggled in attack and reception, losing badly the first set. Conte sent son Facundo on for Lucchi and things seemed to go better with a creative Moro. Still, Roma remained superior and clinched the second set without much trouble. Bologna did not put its head down, though. It regained confidence and stopped every attempt of Roma to run away. Tied at 25, however, Yosifov put the end word to it with a block and an ace.

Adriano Paolucci (M. Roma Volley): “We started off a bit tense, but I think this is normal considering what was at stake. In the first set, we did well to stop Bologna from settling in. We only faded at the end of the third set because they put all their last energy in the battle. We are extremely satisfied with this triumph”.

Andrea Giani (M. Roma Volley): “It’s a great satisfaction to have won this cup. I’d like to thank the players for the effort and the fans for their support”.

Stefano Moro (Zinella Bologna): “Roma deserve to be the one to celebrate. We faced a great team. Everything went their way, while we started off too tense. Anyway, we had a go at it”.

Hugo Conte (Zinella Bologna): “We haven’t been present in any department of the game. Roma played with consistency. They served very well. I’m still proud with what the team is doing this season”.
