European Cup finals

Three of the four Italian teams involved in European Cup Final Fours will make their debut this Saturday. Cuneo will face Piacenza at 4 in the first Cev Cup semi-final in Maaseik, Belgium. The final will be the next day at 6pm. The other semi final will be Odintsovo (Russia) against the Noliko Maaseik, hosts of this 50th edition.

“I am very happy that the finals will be in Belgium, at home – said Cuneo’s captain Wijsmans – It’s always nice to get to the Final Four but to play it in your home country makes it even more special. Maaseik is just half an hour away from my home town and there will therefore be my parents and many friends, who I will be glad to see, this will be a great emotion. I played for two years in Maaseik but the gym is new, I don’t know it. I know the club very well, definitely one of the best organization in Europe, they’ve had the same chairman for 25 years. We’ll have a special welcome. And they love volleyball in Belgium, it will be a great celebration, the club also celebrates its 50th anniversary. This time, I’ll be focused on the game against Piacenza, though. It’s a team we’ve met quite often towards the end of seasons in recent years. It’s a tough team, even if it plays without Marshall right now, we have to be very careful. The semi-final is one single game, anything can happen. We’ve proved that when it matters, the team plays at its bets: that’s what we’ll try to do in this Final Four to go all the way”.

Everything is ready in Perugia, as the Italian city hosts the Challenge Cup Final Four. This will be the first time ever that it hosts men’s finals in which it takes part. Di Pinto’s team are still unbeaten as they will face the German side of Berlin on Saturday at 4.30pm. The other semi-final will put face to face Liberec (Cze) and Zagreb (Cro). The game for third place will be on Sunday at 1pm, followed but the final at 4pm.
