The atmosphere was exceptional in the Pala Olimpia as all the takings will be given to charity to the Mtoto Mzuri project, which aims to help Mozambique and Tanzania. Verona let the first set slip away and stayed in the game until halfway through the second, then Juantorema (MVP) and co stepped up a gear.

Michal Lasko (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Shame the first set ended this way. Still, I think everyone could give something more in every area of the game, and this is useful to get better. Too much amnesia from the team, although we made up for it with some good serving”.

Massimo Colaci (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We knew it was not going to be easy to play in this gym. Verona always plays well in its PalaOlimpia, but we also knew we were capable of winning and we are happy we managed to do that”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 18-25)

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Milushev 6, Guglielmi, Guerra 20, Patriarca 7, Falaschi 1, Torre, Dvoranen 3, Rodriguez 11, Gallotta 11, Cicola (L). DNP Pagano, Cozzi. Coach. Lattari.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 9, Henno (L), Parodi 16, Fortunato 8, Wijsmans 12, Carletti, Grbic 4, Peda 1, Nikolov 14, Patriarca. DNP Galic, Montagna, Volkov. Coach. Giuliani.

Castellana Grotte gave it its best shot to make it difficult for the Italian champions despite having Rak out (flu) and a couple of others not hundred percent. It will not bring them any points but the second set won can be considered as a little victory.

Francesco Guglielmi (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “This is a very tough championship and we knew it. It was obviously difficult to get any point against Cuneo but I think we played an excellent game. I am optimist for the future because we have a good team. We have to become a little more consistent, though”.

Simone Parodi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It’s been a difficult game today against a team fighting and pushed by its unbelievable fans. We did well to stay focused even after the set lost. You can’t underestimate anyone in this league. Even if we are superior in terms of technique, they did their best and we did a good job of getting the job done”.
