Verona stops Trento’s winning streak. Forli wins but goes down.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 2-3 (23-25, 15-25, 27-25, 25-23, 12-15)

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA: Popp 2, Semenzato, Marra (L), Gonzalez 7, Ruiz 14, Nilsson 12, Massari, Zlatanov 17, Holt 9, Tencati 10. DNP Perazzolo, Boschi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 27, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio, Marchiani, Conte 20, Stankovic 8, Martino, Vadeleux, Omrcen 25, Podrascanin 10. DNP Van Walle, Cacchiarelli. Coach. Berruto.

It seemed it was never going to end in the PalaBanca. Halfway through the third set, Macerata was well on its way to victory but Piacenza got back in it, somehow. Piacenza had an 8-7 lead before surrendering in the tie-break.

Valerio Vermiglio (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We found all the composure we could at the end of the game. We lost our way in the third set when it was tight, we got nervous. Each set that we lose really hurt us. Despite the come back from Piacenza, we hanged in there, fought hard, we had a better attitude than against Modena, we found the spirit to stay in it when we suffered”.

Davide Marra (Copra Morpho Piacenza): “We lacked a little bit of luck and courage to win it. Overall, we did a good job, we stayed in the game, despite the fact that it seemed the game would end on a 3-1 score. The next game is one of the toughest, we’ve worked well this week and, contrary to what one might read, the group is united”.

SISLEY TREVISO – ANDREOLI LATINA 0-3 (22-25, 20-25, 20-25)

SISLEY TREVISO: Elgarten, Fei 11, Horstink 8, Kovar 1, Papi 3, Boninfante 2, De Togni, Bontje 6, Maruotti 9, Vanin (L), Bjelica 7. DNP Szabo. Coach. Piazza.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 14, Kohut 9, Gitto, Sottile 2, Pieri (L), Spairani 6, Vujevic 13, Starovic 18. DNP Popelka, Cortina, Nonne, Labardi, Giombini. Coach. Medei.

Latina created the upset in Treviso, which was without Farina (back). The hosts struggled in reception during the whole game and they failed to contain veteran Vujevic (MVP) and his teammates.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Treviso): “Not much to say, they dominated from start to finish, we only played when they were way ahead and it was impossible to come back. We have never been willing to play, we never got in the game and I don’t know why. Congratulation to them, but If we think we can get good results playing like we did in the last two games, then we’ve got it all wrong. I have my responsibilities, I tried to change things, to find different solutions, but nothing worked. I think we’ll all have to think about it. Our minds on the Cev cup? Absolutely not, I really can’t believe that would be that. And If we think we can win the CEV cup playing like today or like against San Giustino, then we are mistaken”.

Giampaolo Medei (coach Andreoli Latina): “Three crucial points, Castellana is coming on strong behind us, we had to respond and we did it in the best possible way. In recent games, the results had not gone our way despite the fact we played well, but today we played extremely well, we did not make many mistakes at all, and we even got the three-point win. That’s the way we have to play without looking at the opponent or the calendar, just trying to get points on each outing, like tonight. We showed good things in every area of the game, we made the difference at the net, in dig, covering and with a good attack on high balls. It’s not easy to win 3-0 in Treviso, we are very happy. That’s the way to go”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 3, Henno (L), Parodi 16, Fortunato 1, Wijsmans 10, Grbic 3, Nikolov 10, Volkov 11. DNP Galic, Montagna, Carletti, Peda, Patriarca. Coach. Giuliani.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Milushev 14, Rak 6, Cozzi 3, Guerra, Patriarca 1, Falaschi 1, Torre, Dvoranen 6, Rodriguez 8, Gallotta 1, Cicola (L). DNP Pagano, Guglielmi. Coach. Gulinelli.

Cuneo stopped Castellana Grotte’s five game winning streak with a straight set victory. Giuliani’s team needed just over an hour and a quarter to seal it, as it was very effective in the key moments of the sets.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It’s normal that our heads were already a little bit in Moscow, but we did well to win the game and take the three points. We served very well in the first set, faded a bit in the second, but we stayed focused all the time and stayed composed. When we needed it, we’ve always hit a good serve or a decisive block: that’s the way it should be. Now we can focus on the Champions League”.

Flavio Gulinelli (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We must not look at the opponent but focus on ourselves. We did not play as well as we could have at the beginning. We have not fought as hard as usual. Cuneo did a good job of making it difficult for us in reception and attack, and we did not manage to overcome this obstacle. Let’s try to get right back on track now, get back to victory and play better and better”.

CASA MODENA – M. ROMA VOLLEY 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Kooistra 11, Dennis 13, Berezhko 9, Kooy, Casadei, Esko 3, Creus Larry 9, Casoli, Diaz 12. DNP Ciabattini, Fabroni, Piscopo. Coach. Bagnoli.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Zaytsev 13, Paolucci, Lebl 2, Uriarte 1, Cesarini (L), Corsini 4, Bencz 10, Yosifov 6, Corsano (L), Cupkovic 12. DNP Tomatis, Saraceni, Cisolla. Coach. Giani.

Second consecutive win for Modena after the big one over Macerata. It beat Roma 3-0 and consolidates its fifth place in the table, closing in on Treviso. Mikko Esko MVP.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “It’s an important victory and I am especially satisfied with the level of play shown in the third set. We haven’t played our best volleyball in the first two sets, we failed to take advantage of certain situations. We are working on those things, we have to finish off the opportunities that we create ourselves. Every game is crucial, the end of championships always has its amount of surprises, we have to be extremely focused because there is our playoff position at stake”.

Andrea Giani (coach M. Roma Volley): “I was moved from the welcoming I got from the Modena fans. It’s been a really strong and beautiful feeling. Today I was here as opponent and talking about my Roma, I think we did fairly well. This was the first week with almost everybody back in training in ages and we managed to play good volleyball. Unfortunately, we still do so only for limited periods and against those teams you get punished”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 1-3 (24-26, 20-25, 25-20, 17-25)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 17, Birarelli 6, Della Lunga 1, Juantorena 4, Zygadlo 3, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Sala 6, Sokolov 2, Colaci (L), Stokr 21, Garcia Pires Ribeiro 4, Bari (L). DNP Leonardi. Coach. Stoytchev.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Pajenk 10, Kosmina, Brunner 10, Meoni 1, Lasko 24, Smerilli (L), Lotman 6, Cala Gerardo 21, Herpe 2. DNP Zingel, Sterzi. Coach. Bagnoli.

Verona obtained the first victory of its history in Trento and it put an end to the unbeaten run of the World champs this season in the Serie A1. The streak of Stoytchev’s team stops at 21. Meoni MVP.

Jan Stokr (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We wanted to win this game but we’ve been a bit slow and not very effective in any area of the game. We started well but halfway through the first set we lost our consistency. Verona played extremely well in dig, they made it difficult for us in reception and attack. I don’t think the tiredness amassed in recent week in the weight room has anything to do. We were physically fine, we simply found a team that played better than us. It could be a healthy defeat if we are able to listen to these warning signs”.

Marco Meoni (Marmi Lanza Verona): “It’s an unbelievable joy to win here but that doesn’t mean we’re stronger than the World Champions at all. We took advantage of a bad day for them. Let’s enjoy this moment but from next week we’ll have to focus on the Forlì game and with the same determination”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – YOGA FORLì 2-3 (21-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 7-15)

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Cetrullo 12, Rauwerdink 9, Krumins, Forni 2, Buti 10, Rooney 12, Travica 7, Gavotto 4, Shumov 9, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti, Molteni, Alborghetti. Coach. Monti.

YOGA FORLì: Falasca 25, Bacci, De Pandis (L), Ainsworth 10, Sintini 2, Kovacevic 17, Bellei 5, Caldeira 12, Oivanen 4. DNP Ricci Petitoni, Olivucci, Bovolenta. Coach. Molducci.

Monza surrendered against Forli after five sets. Despite the victory, Molducci’s team will go down in the A2.

Giacomo Sintini (Yoga Forlì): “To tell you the truth: since I arrived in December I have never seen the team lacking motivation. We have always tried to get points and played hard and with competitive spirit. We always tried to give our best, to make up for our lack of physicality and technique, because at the end of the day, the league table doesn’t lie. On the other hand, I think they have gone on court a little relaxed, especially at the beginning, we took immediate advantage  and, even if they got back in it, we played well, especially at the tie-break in which we stayed focused all the way. We can’t do anything about our league position anymore, but we’ll keep going on court ready to give it a fight with our pride”.

Leano Cetrullo (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We were getting back in the game but that was not enough, we might have lacked a bit of courage and determination. They played well, but we should have won it. We didn’t do what was required and the result is the consequence”.
