On the day of the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification, some good promotion work led to a great show and a packed gym in the capital. The players did the rest to make it a great day of volleyball just after the anthem was sung. Another show was the one of Zaytsev, who helped Roma come back from a one-set deficit to take all three points.
Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Treviso): “The Italian league is already difficult as it is, if we complicate things ourselves any further, it becomes impossible to win. In the second and third set, we were ahead on the scoreboard but we made silly mistakes, especially in reception. And Zaytsev was excellent too”.
Martin Lebl (M. Roma Volley): “We had been playing well for quite a while but without getting the deserved reward. It finally happened tonight, we managed to loosen up and get one. It’s really been a great satisfaction to win in this packed gym on the celebration of Italy’s unification. Hopefully, we will bring more of these moments to the fans”.

The supporters filled the gym and made sure their players received a special welcoming after their recent triumph in the Challenge Cup. That’s when the fun stopped, however, for Macerata which was swept away by Cuneo 3-0.
Mauro Berruto (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We showed great will and were composed in the first set, we managed to stay in it despite the unbelievable amount of blocks we conceded. Losing it 27-25 was really hard to take in, and we lowered our guards in the successive sets, in which some alternative tactical schemes we tried did not quite work out. We have to focus on that tactical aspect and go to Roma to get what would be a crucial win, and be able to work without too much pressure in the following two weeks”.
Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We started off a bit tense, I think it might have to do with the Champions League elimination too, which was still in our minds. From the second set on, we loosened up, and we obtained an important victory. That will allow us to prepare and focus on the playoffs in the best possible manner”.
