Roma over Macerata at the tie-break

SISLEY TREVISO – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (25-27, 27-29, 17-25)

SISLEY TREVISO: Elgarten, Fei 12, Horstink 15, Kovar 1, Papi 3, Farina (L), Boninfante, De Togni, Bontje 6, Maruotti 7, Bjelica 8. DNP Szabo, Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 14, Birarelli 5, Della Lunga, Juantorena 17, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira 2, Sala 5, Sokolov, Colaci (L), Stokr 15, Bari (L). DNP Leonardi, Garcia Pires Ribeiro. Coach. Stoytchev.

It’s spring time in Treviso but the gym was full for this big game all the same and to celebrate the 33rd trophy of the club: the Cev Cup won in Poland last week. In the end, though, Trento won for the first time on that court.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Itas Diatec Trentino): “I am satisfied with the win over a tough team as well as with the level of play. I had asked maximum focus and the boys did exactly that in the important moments. Still we have to improve and avoid to lower our level like it happened in the second set, when we made too many silly mistakes. And given how talented they are, they took advantage and were close to turn things around”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Treviso): “Very good game for the first two sets, in which we played face to face against one of the strongest teams in Europe, we even lost a few points on poor mistakes which could have helped us turn things around. Shame for the third set too, we lost a bit of aggressiveness and Trento punished our mistakes, they used the serve very well, especially Juantorena”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-2 (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 15-10)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Zaytsev 23, Paolucci 3, Lebl 8, Uriarte, Cesarini (L), Saraceni 5, Bencz 9, Yosifov 12, Cupkovic 16. DNP Tomatis, Corsini, Corsano, Cisolla. Coach. Giani.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 19, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio 2, Conte 10, Stankovic 12, Martino 9, Van Walle 4, Podrascanin 10. DNP Marchiani, Vadeleux, Cacchiarelli. Coach. Berruto.

The excitement of the supporters got to the two teams, which made it a great game in front of 3000 fans. Roma needed two points to be mathematically safe but Giani’s boys wanted a second breakthrough in 4 days. Zaytsev and co went close, only a great reaction from Macerata stopped the host from taking all three points.

Mauro Berruto (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Roma played this game to perfection, they really made it hard for us from the start. We reacted well with temporary manoeuvres too. But then we had to deal with Martino’s injury, which made it even more complicated. The way things went, it’s still a good point taken. Now, we’ll have to work to get the players back for the playoffs”.

Andrea Giani (coach M. Roma Volley): “I am glad because after so many problems, we are coming out of a situation that I had never even faced as a player. I feel the group is united. The positive thing is that they always give 100% and we always make progress in each game”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 7, Henno (L), Parodi 9, Wijsmans 18, Carletti 1, Peda 5, Volkov 11. DNP Galic, Fortunato, Montagna, Patriarca, Donzella, Mulatero. Coach. Giuliani.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Pajenk 3, Brunner 8, Meoni 1, Lasko 14, Smerilli (L), Zingel, Cala Gerardo 10, Herpe 6. DNP Kosmina, Ulisse. Coach. Bagnoli.

With second place already secured, Cuneo faced Verona, which intended to defend its seventh position. Lotman’s absence made itself felt for Verona as Cuneo won the game. The guests always found a way to escape half way through the sets. Wijsmans top scorer with 18.

Marco Meoni (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Tonight, we really lacked intensity and presence. It’s true that being without Lotman hurt us and that there was also a great team on the other side of the net. Even without a couple of starters, Cuneo is still a top class team. Taking all this in consideration, there was not much more we could do”.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “A positive evening. In my opinion, Carletti and Peda played a good game, they were ready to take over some players that needed a rest. Now we can start thinking about the playoffs without any pressure. It will be a very intense period for us, and resting some guys when we can is important in order to approach better this coming challenge”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-17)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Rivera Caamano 11, Coscione 5, Feroleto (L), Suljagic, Anderson 11, Baroti, Simeonov 16, Ananiev, Barone 10, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 8. DNP Ferraro, Kindgard. Coach. Di Pinto.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA: Popp 4, Semenzato, Marra (L), Gonzalez 4, Ruiz 8, Perazzolo 1, Nilsson 1, Zlatanov 12, Holt 8, Tencati 5. DNP Massari, Boschi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Vibo grabbed three crucial points for the playoffs against a Piacenza team that surely had different plans for this encounter. Vibo showed all its heart on that game eager to bounce back after the poor performance against Castellana. On the other side of the net, Piacenza’s problems were evident, even in terms of character.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Morpho Piacenza): “It’s very difficult to comment this game. We played the first set well as we always do, but then we wasted some opportunities, some situations we have seen millions of times on video, and there are quite a few. We started the second set fine, like the previous one but we kept making silly mistakes, in key moments too. Things get really tough this way, from a possible 1-1, we found ourselves trailed 2-0, that became extremely difficult”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “This victory will do us a lot of good for the rest of the championship. Three points taken with our guts in an extremely intense game. My team really deserved it”.

YOGA FORLì – ANDREOLI LATINA 1-3 (17-25, 26-28, 25-20, 22-25)

YOGA FORLì: Falasca 24, Ricci Petitoni 1, Bacci, De Pandis (L), Ainsworth 11, Sintini 2, Kovacevic 13, Bellei 1, Caldeira 7, Oivanen, Bovolenta 6. DNP Olivucci. Coach. Molducci.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 17, Kohut 9, Gitto 7, Sottile 3, Cortina (L), Spairani 8, Vujevic 12, Starovic 18, Giombini. DNP Popelka, Nonne, Pieri, Labardi. Coach. Medei.

Entertaining game without being great, Latina clinched the three points they needed to make a step closer to safety. Falasca had an excellent game, just like Graydon Ainsworth who confirms his good moment of form.

Daniele De Pandis (Yoga Forlì): “Disappointed with the result because we had taken points in the last few games. We really wanted it, to play right until the end and for our fans, which were present to support us today again. A couple of missed plays made the difference in the end”.

Giampaolo Medei (coach Andreoli Latina): “A win that we really wanted at all cost to keep Castellana Grotte at safe distance. We took control of the game, using the bench as well in the difficult moments”.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23)

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO: Zhukouski, Van Den Dries, Schwarz 16, Bartoletti, Dias 21, Giovi (L), Finazzi 11, Nikic 13, Braga 3, Cester 3, Steuerwald 4. DNP Lo Bianco, Maric. Coach. Zanini.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Cetrullo 2, Rauwerdink 4, Krumins, Forni, Molteni 6, Buti 16, Rooney 18, Travica 8, Gavotto 15, Shumov 2, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti, Zito. Coach. Monti.

San Giustino had the better of Monza 3-1 and stays in 8th position in the league, the last place for the playoffs. MVP: Schwarz.

Sebastian Schwarz (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “It’s been a very tough game. We found it really hard in the first set. We have not played at our best, but we fought hard on every play. Our target now is to get into the playoffs, so we’ll try to win the next two games too. It will be a real battle against Castellana, they’re playing well, but we’ll go there to get some points”.

Luca Monti (coach Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “What I liked about the game is that the boys never gave up, but we needed a little something more. San Giustino deserves the win, and they deserves what they have achieved in this league”.
