Round 3: maximum points for Modena and Macerata. First point for Ravenna.

ANDREOLI LATINA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-20)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano, Hardy-Dessources 6, Gitto 5, Sottile 2, Jarosz 15, De Pandis (L), Guemart, Troy 1, Roca Borrero 12, Fragkos 10. DNP Tailli, Galabinov. Coach. Prandi.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 8, Ter Horst 1, Meoni 2, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 9, Zingel 8, Casarin, Kromm 11, Postiglioni, Gasparini 10. DNP Kosmina, Calderan, Bolla. Coach. Bagnoli.

Three crucial points for Latina who sweeps Verona.

Silvano Prandi (coach Andreoli Latina): “Verona is surely a different opponent from San Giustino, they made mistakes that made things easier for us. You need at least two months to get to a good level of play. Not having a clear starting six has positive and negative aspects, who knows if there will be some confirmations with time”.

Stefano Patriarca (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We knew it was going to be a tough game in Latina. But after the first two games, we expected to get some points. Our attack on high balls did not work and there were too many mistakes on the serve. But that should not discourage us”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – M. ROMA VOLLEY 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 10, Henno (L), Ngapeth 17, Fortunato 5, Wijsmans 5, Vissotto Neves 12, Grbic 1, Caceres, Patriarca 2, Baranowicz. DNP Van Lankvelt, Rossi, Pieri. Coach. Gulinelli.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 2, Paolucci, Maruotti 6, Zaytsev 14, Boninfante 4, Bencz 4, Corsano (L), Sabbi 13, Bjelica 3. DNP Passier, Sorgente, Puliti, Cisolla. Coach. Giani.

Giani’s team came to the PalaBreBanca arena looking for its first points. But the first joy will not come against Cuneo as French player Earvi NGapeth led his team with 17 points and the title of MVP.

Hubert Henno (Bre Banca Lannutti): “We always struggle a bit at the beginning of sets, but then we do a good job of finding our rhythm and seal the sets in our favour, that was the case in the third too, allowing us to avoid extending the game.

Andrea Giani (coach M.Roma Volley): “We lost three nil tonight but we did OK. The work we have set in training should pay off, we cannot do anything else but keep working. We’ll immediately start to prepare the next game, now we have to face Vibo, we’ll have to find the confidence we haven’t been able to gain from the first games. We have to be ready for a real battle”.

CASA MODENA – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-19)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 5, Diachkov 7, Dennis 16, Carletti, Kooy 9, Bellei, Esko 4, Casoli, Anderson 15. DNP Catellani. Coach. Bagnoli.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Aleksiev 1, Ciabattini (L), Rossini (L), Zhukouski 1, Nikic 11, Forni 4, Molteni 6, Buti 3, De Cecco 2, Gavotto 8, Shumov 1, Roumeliotis 1. DNP Mor. Coach. Zanini.

In a repeat of a thrilling playoff quarter final last season, Modena had the better of Monza and remained with a hundred percent record (9 points). MVP: US spiker Matthew Anderson: 15 points and 62 percent in attack.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “It’s been a very hard week: without middle blockers given that Sala was ill as well, we did not train properly. I am very happy with the victory today and surprised by the performance of the team. Kooy and Diachkov did a good job to adapt and the whole team did well to stay focused. Kooy’s serves at the end of the second set have definitely been key. These points are worth double”.

Emanuele Zanini (coach Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “Shame it went this way at the end of the second set, but Modena did well in that circumstance. We’re still a work in progress, we put our heads down a bit in the third set. Congratulations to Modena”.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO – CMC RAVENNA 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13)

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 11, Rauwerdink 12, Cozzi 10, Bartoletti, Conte 21, Finazzi, Petkovic 2, Tholse, Giovi (L), Urnaut 24. DNP Mc Kibbin, Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 13, Leonardi 1, Bendandi, Corvetta 4, Sirri 13, Tabanelli (L), Verhanneman, Quiroga 14, Moro 4, Brunner 7, Gruszka 15, Roberts 7. DNP Gallosti. Coach. Babini.

San Giustino gathered its first home win of the season in its third consecutive tie-break. First point as well for Ravenna this season. MVP: Conte.

Tine Urnaut (Energy Resources San Giustino): “We expected a very tough game. We had to stay focused at all time. As soon as we lowered our guards, they managed to take the lead and we had to fight back more than once. We have to limit our mistakes, but we still have great margin for improvement”.

Antonio Corvetta (CMC Ravenna): “We are not very effective yet on the serve. A couple of plays here and there made the difference in the end”.

SISLEY BELLUNO – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 2-3 (25-27, 30-28, 29-27, 21-25, 17-19)

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz 1, Szabò 1, Fei 32, Horstink 5, Dolfo 10, Kohut 17, Curti, De Togni 9, Suxho 3, Antonov 9, Sorato (L), Ogurcak 4. Coach. Piazza.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca 6, Coscione 2, Cernic 15, Diaz 26, Rak 2, Bonetti, Klapwijk 19, Barone 7, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 20. DNP Mignolo, Grassano, Bratoev. Coach. Blengini.

The game between Belluno and Vibo Valentia lasted almost three hours. In the end, Blengini’s boys snatched it in a long thrilling tie-break (19-17) coming back from 8-4 down. MVP: Alessandro Fei

Roberto Piazza (Coach Sisley Belluno): “Shame we threw it away in the end. When it’s time to seal it, you have to seal it. We had worked well for the first points of the fifth set, then everything turned around on one non-call. We’ll need fighting spirit and strong character to get points, and I have not seen that from my players. We attacked less than them for the whole game, which was OK given their characteristics. There was some positive from Antonov and Dolfo. There are some progress but I don’t care much about them, I want this nasty competitiveness to close out the sets”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We did not play as well as in the first two games and we found it difficult. This was a game full of mistakes, silly ones too, and the team that was losing it the least, Belluno, was taking the upper hand. We badly missed the plays of a possible 2-0 lead and we found ourselves trailing 2-1. That’s when we found our composure. We pulled together, I’d say that we won it by doing the simple things, I mean getting back to doing the simple things”.
