Champions League and CEV Cup ready to start. The three Italian teams ready to fight for the most prestigious title are Trentino, Cuneo and Macerata. Three-times champion Trento is chasing CSKA’s record of 1986-1989 when the Russians won four on the trot. Cuneo is hoping for its first ever title in this competition, while Macerata would like to add to the title won in 2002. 


Starring in the Cev Cup 2012 for Italy will be Monza, while Modena’s adventure in the Challenge Cup will begin in December, although the 1st round will take place as soon as October 22.

FORMULA


The Champions League begins with 6 groups of 4 teams. All the successive rounds will take place with home and away games except for the Final Four.

Cuneo will first travel to Germany to meet Unterhaching, while the other teams of the group are Budejovice, Czech Republic and Poitiers, France.


The holders, Trento, will face the ambitious team of Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle, the Polish side finalist of the last Cev Cup, the Serbian champions of Partizan Belgrade and the Spanish champions of Teruel.


Macerata will host the opening game against the Russians of Novosibirsk, national cup winners. Then, they will face Fenerbahce, Turkey, and Hypo Tirol Innsbruck, Austria.

FORMULA: The competition starts at the 16th of finals with a special ‘Challenge Round’ between the quarters and the semis, in which four teams join in after being knocked out of the Champions League. There are no Final Four, all the rounds will be played with home and away games.
