There will be a break in the league as there will be the World Cup from November 20 to December 4 in Japan. The top three will qualify for the Olympic Games 2012. The Serie A1 round 8 will take place on December 8. Meanwhile, on November 11, it will be time for the All Star Game.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 15, Birarelli 4, Della Lunga 2, Juantorena 16, Zygadlo, Lanza, Sokolov 14, Djuric 3, Colaci (L), Bari (L), Burgsthaler 4. DNP Vieira De Oliveira, Stokr. Coach. Stoytchev.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 4, Leonardi, Bendandi, Corvetta 1, Sirri 6, Verhanneman 4, Quiroga 7, Gallosti (L), Moro 1, Brunner 4, Gruszka 15. DNP Tabanelli, Roberts. Coach. Babini.

No surprise in the game between top and bottom of the league. The leaders did the job in three sets in front of over 3000 fans. Gruszka the only positive note for Ravenna.

Tsvetan Sokolov (Itas Diatec Tretino): “I found a good rhythm although I was having some trouble in attack at the beginning. We really wanted those three points and now we can enjoy this top spot at least for a month. But we will still keep working hard because we’ll have some tough games when we get back on court”.

Nicola Leonardi (CMC Ravenna): “The first six games have been really hard for us, but we are lucky enough to have a volleyball city and I am sure the fans will understand that we’re worth much more than the only point gathered so far. When the league resume, we’ll try to get back on track”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-11)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Papi 12, Zhekov 4, Nikolov 21, Massari 8, Holt 6, Tencati 2, Penchev. DNP Ammerman, Kral, Sidibé, Marretta. Coach. Lorenzetti.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 9, Kosmina, Ter Horst, Calderan, Meoni 1, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 6, Zingel 3, Casarin 1, Kromm 8, Postiglioni 2, Gasparini 10. Coach. Bagnoli.

The game started with a lot of mistakes from both teams, with Piacenza which even seemed afraid to have the ball in hand. Still, Piacenza wins it in three sets with Nikolov key in the second set. Third set totally dominated by the hosts.

Vladimir Nikolov (Copra Elior Piacenza): “I am extremely satisfied with this three-point victory. We played excellent volleyball from start to finish. We had a lot of pressure this week, we knew we had to face a team with great potential, very strong, a team in which there is Gasparini, who was the best server so far, and Meoni, who is an unbelievable setter. We really wanted those three points, this is a very important result”.

Mitja Gasparini (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We gave up too easily in the first set and did not play well. Piacenza were low in the league table, they had some tough games but we were aware of their potential”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – CASA MODENA 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-22)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 20, Exiga (L), Parodi 13, Stankovic 10, Monopoli, Travica 5, Omrcen 16, Podrascanin 6. DNP Pajenk, Kovar, Van Walle. Coach. Giuliani.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 8, Dennis 5, Carletti 3, Kooy 7, Yosifov 9, Esko 2, Martino 11, Casoli, Anderson 14. DNP Catellani, Bellei, Piscopo. Coach. Bagnoli.

Macerata bounced back following its defeat against Vibo and won the big game of the day against Modena. MVP. Christian Savani.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Very important win for the points we get in the table and the confidence that it gives us. We won it after losing the first set. Credit to Modena which found the winning sprint on an effective run of serves. Overall, it’s been a great battle. I think the difference was the block-dig area. We have to thank again our amazing fans, who are really playing together with the team. This is really great to play in such atmosphere. There is a long break now, which I am extremely worried about, given that we’ll have no less than 10 players in the various national teams. The other teams will take advantage to work with continuity, while it will unfortunately be impossible to do so for us”.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “We wasted too many good opportunities in the second set. Going 2-0 up would have made it a whole different game. From the third set on, Macerata started to play better than us. Martino’s entry has been very positive but I repeat, letting slip away certain chances has been lethal for us”.

FIDIA PADOVA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 19-25)

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 7, Gonzalez 1, Tiberti 1, Cricca 2, Koshikawa 1, Giannotti, Rosso 12, De Marchi 4, Simeonov 13, Semenzato 2, Suljagic 6, Zingaro (L). Coach. Montagnani.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Coscione 3, Cernic 11, Diaz 15, Grassano, Rak 8, Olli, Klapwijk 10, Barone 8, Fanuli (L). DNP Falasca, Mignolo, Nikolov, Lavia. Coach. Blengini.

Very interesting game between Padova and Vibo Valentia. The latter used the momentum of the victory over Macerata to come back home with three more points.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We did not play as we should have today, too many mistakes on the serve, and we did not do too well in reception either. The game was already decided at 18-20 in the first set. I used all my players in the two following sets but it did not help to turn things around. On the other hand, we even played worse when certain players came on. We’ll have to use this break to sort ourselves out. The problem is that four of our players will be missing as they’ll compete with their national team”.

Luis Diaz (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We had prepared this game as if it was a final. We knew Padova wanted to bounce back from its recent outings and we got on court focused. This is a very important win for us, because I believe Padova will be one of our direct challengers in the league table.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (20-25, 19-25, 25-19, 18-25)

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 10, Cozzi 4, Bartoletti 8, Conte 12, Finazzi 4, Petkovic 2, Giovi (L), Sammelvuo 3, Urnaut 15. DNP Mc Kibbin, Tholse, Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 10, Henno (L), Ngapeth 11, Fortunato 3, Wijsmans 14, Vissotto Neves 14, Grbic 7, Patriarca 3, Baranowicz. DNP Van Lankvelt, Caceres, Vesely, Rossi, Pieri. Coach. Gulinelli.

San Giustino had a go but could not avoid the fourth consecutive defeat against Cuneo. A minute silence was observed in memory of the flood victims in Genova. MVP of the game was Wijsmans.

Facundo Conte (Energy Resources San Giustino): “We made an important change in the third set but that was not enough to beat the opponent. We showed fighting spirit like in the previous games, but Cuneo did not let us breath. On the one hand, I am happy because we played better, on the other I am angry because we have lost”.

Flavio Gulinelli (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “In the first two sets, we had control of the game, while the opponent was trying to find its touch after a few defeats. In the third set, San Giustino made changes and they were more daring from the serve. But we did a good job to reorganise ourselves and I think we deserved the win”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-2 (18-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-18, 15-9)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 12, Paolucci 1, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 12, Zaytsev 22, Boninfante 3, Bencz 3, Sabbi 6, Cisolla 4, Bjelica 12. DNP Passier, Puliti, Corsano. Coach. Giani.

After two poor and inconsistent sets, Roma recovered and managed to play its best volleyball from the third set. Gabriele Maruotti’s insertion got the hosts moving again and this greatly helped Roma complete the comeback from 2-0 down and win it at the tie-break.

Silvano Prandi (coach Andreoli Latina): “We started off brightly, with conviction and determination. Then, Roma reacted and Giani made the right changes, which turned the game around”.

Giulio Sabbi (M.Roma Volley): “We were tense at the start of the game. This was probably the worse beginning of match of the season. In the third set, we loosened up, and Zaytsev’s brilliance helped us to get back on our feet. At least we’ll be able to enjoy this month break a little more relaxed”.
