Serie A1 Sustenium

Right back in it for round 9

The Serie A1 is already back after Thursday’s action. The opening game this Sunday will be Piacenza versus Ravenna, both beaten in come back fashion at the tie-break in the last round as they met for the first time in history. The big game of the weekend puts face to face Macerata and Monza. Third in the table, Giuliani’s team is eager to stay close to Trento and Cuneo at the top with a fifth consecutive home win.

Copra Elior Piacenza – CMC Ravenna

PAST ENCOUNTERS: None

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Elior Piacenza): “I think that if we want to prove we’re a solid team, we have to win this next encounter in three sets”.

Stefano Moro (CMC Ravenna): “For the first time in my career I have lost eight in a row and I’d really like to interrupt the series. We know it will be very difficult in Piacenza but we will do everything possible to get a result”.

Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 36 (22-14 Macerata)

Marko Podrascanin (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “The victory over Latina gave us a boost mentally to prepare the Monza game. A tough one given the fact the players will be tired. Just like yesterday, we will need to show character, and use our main strengths, starting with the serve”.

Milos Nikic (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We have to rest and try to be ready physically for the next game. I think we have our chance. We will be motivated and we’ll do our best”.

Andreoli Latina – Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 10 (5 each)

Alain Roca (Andreoli Latina): “We have to forget about Macerata and find our rhythm again. Sunday’s game will be crucial, we have to take three points”.

Matej Cernic (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We have worked hard and we’ll try to win like we did yesterday against Trento. Obviously all the teams aren’t at the same level, we know we’re a good team but now we have to find our balance after the break which made us lose our rhythm”.

Energy Resources San Giustino – Marmi Lanza Verona

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 20 (12-8 San Giustino)

Andrea Giovi (Energy Resources San Giustino): “The point gathered against Modena gave us confidence. Our targets have changed and the game against Verona becomes crucial in the race to stay up. We have to find a new understanding in the team and work quickly to find it”.

Stefano Patriarca (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We have to put the Roma loss behind us and focus on the San Giustino game, it is crucial to find our rhythm and we can do so only by concentrating on our own half of the court”.

Sisley Belluno – Casa Modena

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 100 (53-47 belluno)

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “This will be a very difficult game. Modena can play top class volleyball. They know well the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents, which makes is a tough side to play against. I think this is one of the strongest teams in the league”.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “Belluno is a stronger team than San Giustino, we have to play at a higher level. We have to go there and play a great game”.

M. Roma Volley – Itas Diatec Trentino

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 8 (All Trento)

Giulio Sabbi (M. Roma Volley): “We have very little time to prepare the Trento game, against the strongest team in the world. But that might be the reason why we could play more loosen up without having anything to lose. If we play at our best, we can have a fine game”.

Raphael Vieira De Oliveira (Itas Diatec Trentino): “I am convince this won’t be easy either in Roma. They play very well and our team has been on the road for a week now. It’s always tricky for us as we travel a lot in the various competitions. This is another tough one but we want to win it”.

Fidia Padova – Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 44 (32-12 Cuneo)

Manuele Cricca (Fidia Padova): “Compared to the game played against Ravenna, we will have less pressure against Cuneo. We played a good game on Thursday, and the momentum we had could have got us three point. We have to give credit to Stefano Moro, who managed to turn things around single handed. Cuneo is favourite, they have to win to stay close to the top position. We’ll have to keep playing our volleyball because when we’re composed we can make it tough for the top teams too”.

Flavio Gulinelli (allenatore Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “A very difficult period starts now. We’ll have to deal as well as possible with the physical fitness of the players and get the ones that were in the International competitions to their best. We should not underestimate Padova, all the games are difficult away from home. Once again, we’ll need maximum focus and ability to handle our physical and mental strengths”.

Serie A2 Sustenium

Round 14. Two game sto halfway point. Valuable points at stake for the Italian cup A2.

There are two rounds left to get in the top 8 and qualify for the Italian Cup A2. Except for the top two, Segrate and Castellana, which are certain to be in it, there are still a lot to play for from the third position on. Nine teams can still make it. Round 14 begins with Loreto and Reggio Emilia. Loreto is hoping for cup participation while Reggio’s only worry is to get points to stay up. Beaten in Santa Croce, Cantù will try to bounce back at home against Molfetta, which defeated Genova. Perugia and Corigliano are coming off three-point wins and will face each other. Genova is fourth, while Corigliano got within two points of the 8th spot thanks to its victory in Castellana. Milan quickly moved up the ladder up to sixth in recent games and it will want to keep it going against Santa Croce, seventh just one point behind. Castellana will use its fans to erase the upset suffered against Corigliano (first game without a point of the season) as it takes on Atripalda. Tricky road game for Segrate, which travels to Genova with a four point advantage at the top of the table. Isernia will try to make it three straight wins when it plays host to Città di Castello which has put a run of five wins in a row that rocketed the club to third place, just two points behind the second place. Beaten on Thursday, Sora and Club Italia meet in a derby. Sora can still hope for cup qualification while Bonitta’s team need points to move up to the central part of the league table.
