Monza’s European campaign resumed at home against Berlin in the Cev Cup quarter-final first leg. Despite the fact that Berlin played a good game, the Italians came away with a 3-0 victory but the return leg remains decisive to qualify for the Challenge Round.
Urpo Sivula (Berlin Recycling Volleys): “This was a difficult game but we knew it would, they have an excellent team. We tried our best, and hopefully we’ll have a good game next week. We’ll have the advantage of playing the return leg at home, but we know we’ll have to fight from first to last minute”.
Facundo Conte (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “Berlin is clearly a good teeam, they played well although they did not offer much resistance at the beginning of the game, while we did fine. We won the first and second set at a good level then we faded a bit in the third but we still managed to seal it. The return leg will surely be difficult, but I think that if we play like in the first two sets we can go through”.
Emanuele Zanini (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “This is only the first leg, we know we have to win the return leg too, with their fans pushing them, we know there will be a good atmosphere there, which will make it harder for us. We could see today they have quality players. We played well for two sets then the third set was not as good, they also changed their outside hitter, who had completely different characteristics than the previous one and it took us time to get used to him”.
