Mission accomplished for Trentino in four sets in the Champions League playoffs 12 return leg against Maaseik. Two wins in 8 days over the Belgium side means the Italians are through to the Playoffs 6, in which it will face Macerata. The Maaseik players took many risks and made therefore an awful lot of mistakes.
Radostin Stoytchev (allenatore Trentino PlanetWin365): “Reaching the Playoffs 6 is only a first target and we will obviously want more and defend our title. Tonight’s game proved that we deserved to go through. We had a little more difficulty in the first two sets more because of our own fault than the opponent. In the first set, a good run of serves from Raphael got us out of trouble and in the following set we lost our way, especially in attack. From the third, the real Trento was back and we could seal it in four sets”.

Macerata forced Cuneo to a Golden Set thanks to a tie-break victory and then won it 16-14 to go through to the Playoffs 6, in which it will meet the holders Trento.
Macerata flew to a 3-0 advantage in the tie-break but Cuneo tied it at 7. Macerata regained a two-point advantage and at 14 all it seemed over. Instead, Cuneo saved three match points. But a Mastrangelo mistake on the serve and a Travica block on Wijsmans sent everyone to a Golden Set.
GOLDEN SET. Macerata took a 3-1 then 6-4 lead. Vesely would get Cuneo level at 8-8 but Kovar and Omrcen sent the guests back two ahead. Cuneo fought back again, 11-11, until Omrcen did more damage (11-13). Cuneo had not said its last word as a Savani block meant it was all square at 13. Savani obtained a match point for Macerata but Omrcen served out, 14-14. The second qualification point came on a Mastrangelo serve out. A Savani ace sent Macerata in the next round.
