1 game in hand: Casa Modena, Sir Safety Perugia

2 games in hand: Itas Diatec Trentino

Copra Elior Piacenza – Casa Modena

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 24 (14-10 Piacenza)

Samuele Papi (Copra Elior Piacenza): “Hopefully, we’ll redeem ourselves tomorrow: we were very disappointed with the end of the game against Vibo Valentia.  We could have sealed it 3-1, but we did not find the strength to do it. Modena is an excellent team, their coach, Angelo Lorenzetti knows us by heart as he has been in Piacenza for years. The players will need to pull together as a unit, we have to avoid losing our focus in order not to give opportunities to our opponent”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “Going back in Piacenza will be special . This was a great experience for me, I have many friends there. Piacenza is a very strong team, they proved to be one step above us when we met in a friendly. But never mind their quality, we have to focus on ourselves. We want to step up compared to recent games and especially the last one in Vibo. We want to improve in terms of attitude, and level of play. The boys are working hard and the more they play the more they’ll know each other and get better”.

Itas Diatec Trentino – Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 41 (21 successi Trento, 20 successi Cuneo)

Massimo Colaci (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Regardless of what the league table says, Trento and Cuneo is always a special game. Both the team and the fans really want to win this one. We should not look too much into the league table: we are way behind right now but to get back we should not be obsessed with our calculators. Cuneo is always a strong team, it’s an exciting game for us. I’m sure this will be a great game of volleyball, we’ll have to make the most of our only advantage: the fact we’re playing at home”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We’re going to Trento to face the best team around. Playing a team that dominated the World Club Championships is exciting, we really want to do well. Then we’ll have another game against a top team, Piacenza, which, like Trento, has a very strong roster”.

Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Andreoli Latina

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 24 (21-3 Macerata)

Sasa Starovic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It’s nice to see Latina up there in the table, that’s where I had my first experience in Italy, I have great memories from that time, but there will be no space for friendly feelings. They’re getting good results but we’ll try to make it 8 consecutive wins and stay top of the table. They have excellent players and they play well as a team. But we have to focus exclusively on ourselves, like we’ve been doing thus far”.

Daniele Sottile (Andreoli Latina): “We’re going there with confidence. We’re going through a positive run. Macerata is a fantastic team, there’s no doubt it is the strongest, but we have to go for it and see what happens”.

Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia – CMC Ravenna

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (Vibo Valentia won both)

Rocco Barone (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Despite its position in the league table, Ravenna is a solid squad that paid the price, maybe excessively, for having played all the big teams of the league from the start. That’s why they lost a bit of confidence and I’m sure they’ll be up for it, keen to turn things around and take its first points of the season. We’ll try to give it our best shot as we always do, we’re doing well right now, hopefully we’ll have a good game and stay in the top part of the table”.

Stefano Margutti (General Manager CMC Ravenna): “This will be a good test following the first full week of our new coach Mauro Fresa. Methods in training are different now, the organization is different, these are the first steps of the new era. This cannot be all set after only one week of work, but we’re working to get a solid base on which to build”.

Marmi Lanza Verona – BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 6 (5-1 Verona)

Bruno Bagnoli (coach Marmi Lanza Verona): “We’ll play a well-balanced team which had a difficult fixture list so far. They have top quality players with experience, who played in some of the top teams in Italy, and they also have a couple of interesting youngsters. Perugia has been a negative stop for us, but we have to learn from it to improve our attitude in difficult times. However, we should never forget how important is the technique, which we train every day, and our physical sharpness which I hope will be better next Sunday”.

Flavio Gulinelli (coach BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “Taking aside the 3-4 top teams of the league, Macerata, Cuneo, Trento and Piacenza, I think Verona is in that other group of teams against which we have our chance. I think we can play face to face with our next opponent, but it’s important to focus on the things we have to do ourselves. We have seen Verona on TV and we’re studying it carefully, but we have to look to play good volleyball without worrying about who’s on the other side of the net”.

Sir Safety Perugia – Altotevere San Giustino

PAST ENCOUNTERS: None

Benedetto Rizzuto (Sport Director Sir Safety Perugia): “Twenty years on, a derby on the Umbria region is back, hopefully, the gym will be filled. San Giustino bought the rights of another club this summer, so it can be considered a new side in the division just like us. In my opinion, this is a very strong team on the serve with the Van Den Dries, Bohme, Cebulj, they can really hurt you. We’ll have to do well to contain them and play our game. We are in good shape, this is a crucial game for us given that after that we’ll play Trento and Macerata, we really have to take some points”.

Marco Fenoglio (Coach Altotevere San Giustino): “We’ve had a difficult start to the season. We should be facing less complicated games now, but let’s not get carried away, next Sunday’s game will not be easy. Perugia is in good shape, they’re coming off two wins and they’ll be keen to get a good result at home. We’ll be under a bit of pressure given that we still have to register our first victory. We’ve had to face many problems in the past two weeks, first of all Mckibbin’s injury, which forced us to play 6 on 6 with a 17 year old in training. As for the injuries, Coali, Mattioli and Cesare Gradi have all recovered and will be available. We’ll try to do better than in the first four games. We still have to show most of our potential. The boys are improving in training, we’ll still need time but I’m sure we’ll do well”.

Serie A2

Round 6

B-Chem Golden Plast Potenza Picena – Caffè Aiello Corigliano. No wins and just one point taken so far, Potenza Picena hosts Corigliano, which has 4 points, beaten on  Thursday by Città di Castello.

Gherardi SVI Città di Castello – Vero Volley Monza. Both undefeated, they meet for the 7th time in history, three wins apiece so far in the past three seasons.

Pallavolo Molfetta – Elettrosud Brolo. Stopped in the last round by Ortona, Molfetta entertains Brolo, which had the better of Potenza Picena at the tie-break. Ortona will count on Overbeeke, who scored 28 points in the last game.

Sidigas Atripalda – Pallavolo Loreto. Third in the table following a perfect road game in Padova, which made it four wins in five games, Atripalda takes on Loreto, still without a win as it was rested in the last round.

Coserplast Matera – Sieco Service Ortona. Stuck with 3 points following its latest defeat, Matera will try to make the home court advantage count as it takes on Ortona, the surprise team of the league and joint leader with Città di Castello.

Conad Reggio Emilia – Tonazzo Padova. Padova has won all five of the previous meetings between the two teams, but Reggio is full of confidence following its brilliant victory in Sora. As for Schiavon’s boys, they were severely beaten home by Atripalda and will look to redeem themselves as the game is postponed to Monday (game to be differed on Tuesday night at 8pm on Rai Sport 1).
