Serie A1: Round 9

During the game between Macerata and Modena, the Video Check system was tested by the Italian Volleyball League. “It all went very well – said the CEO Massimo Righi – I am personally satisfied and convinced that the Video Check can be examined by the Federal Council”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-2 (26-24, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 15-8)

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Menzel 4, Elia, Paparoni (L), Falaschi 5, Dolfo 2, Sabbi 25, Ferreira 6, Yosifov 19, Cester 11, Casoli 5, Krumins 1. DNP Ricciardello, Ferreira. Coach. Gulinelli.

A lot of mistakes from both parts but still an exciting game. In the end, the home side deservedly won it against third place Latina. The blocking was key, with 20 from Castellana Grotte: Yosifov (8) and Cester (6) the star men. The Bulgarian was named MVP.

Viktor Yosifov (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We got off to a great start, we also had a little bit of luck at the end of the first set. Then, we started to make our usual mistakes again and they got back in it. Good job we got the result in the end. We lack consistency which might be due to our inexperience. But we are working well, we’ll go to Ravenna next Sunday to play a good game”.

Stefano Patriarca (Andreoli Latina): “I am satisfied with my performance, less with the result. We knew it was going to be tough here, against a team that is difficult to beat when they don’t make mistakes. They proved that tonight. Shame because we had made the effort to get back in it. They just managed to find that last push, which we didn’t”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – CASA MODENA 1-3 (19-25, 25-20, 18-25, 23-25) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello 1, Pajenk 7, Zaytsev 14, Parodi 11, Stankovic 1, Monopoli, Henno (L), Travica 3, Randazzo 2, Kooy 12, Podrascanin 7. DNP Santangelo. Coach. Giuliani.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Catellani, Sala 7, Deroo 18, Quesque 17, Celitans 25, Casadei, Vesely, Baranowicz, Piscopo 3. DNP Bevilacqua, Molteni. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Macerata finished a game empty handed for the first time this season, beaten by Modena. The Italian champs had not lost home until now, winning four in the league and 2 in the Champions League. Already out without Kovar and Starovic, the hosts also had to do without Starovic (knee).

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “A defeat always comes because of the opponent but also because of your own performance. It had to happen one day or another, that occurred today, at the end of a period in which not only do we have a lot of games, but unfortunately we can’t train with the full squad either. We’re missing players and lack tactical options. The players that started the game today basically trained with our B1 team this week just so you can understand the situation we’re in. But useless to start crying on the past anyway, the important thing will be to get back the players we can, and keep working hard humble”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “I am extremely happy with the victory, even if we have to admit we were up against a team that has had its fair share of bad luck of late. Besides, they have not served as well as they usually do, and that is a weapon that usually makes it tough for the opponents”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 11, Birarelli 3, Juantorena 21, Vieira De Oliveira 2, Lanza 1, Djuric 8, Colaci (L), Stokr 20, Bari (L), Burgsthaler. DNP Sintini, Uchikov, Chrtiansky Jr. Coach. Stoytchev.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Latelli (L), Marra (L), Corvetta, Papi 3, Fei 17, Simon 13, Holt 15, Tencati, Maruotti 12, De Cecco 3. DNP Tavana, Zlatanov, Vettori. Coach. Monti.

In the big game of the day, Trento had the better of Piacenza and made it 17 wins in a row. Stoytchev’s boys also took advantage of Macerata’s loss to go top of the league. Piacenza has not won in Trento since May 2009 when it won the title.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Piacenza did a great job to get back in it by taking the second set, when it looked like it was ours. But we deserve credit for shrugging off that disappointment and winning the next two sets. Three crucial points for us, no matter what the results of the other courts are”.

Robertlandy Simon (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We are not the finished article yet. We still have to improve our understanding. The aim is to reach our best at the Italian Cup but I think games like this one can be useful to get better. We made it hard for the World Champions in spite of being without Zlatanov, that is surely a good performance, even if the results is not positive”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 6, Ngapeth 12, De Pandis (L), Wijsmans 11, Kohut 3, Grbic 2, Sokolov 18, Abdelaziz 1. DNP Antonov, Marchisio, Galliani, Della Lunga, Rossi. Coach. Piazza.

ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO: Fiore 6, Van Den Dries 10, Guttmann, Mc Kibbin 2, Cesarini (L), Bohme 4, Mattioli 3, Torre, De Togni 6, Maric 7. DNP Coali, Gradi, Lo Bianco. Coach. Fenoglio.

Defeated in Modena last week, Cuneo found the response they wanted. Led by the MVP Earvin Ngapeth (12 points, one ace) and top scorer Sokolov, Cuneo had the better of San Giustino who had its main man in Van Den Dries (10 points).

Van Des Dries Bram (Altotevere San Giustino): “We had a decent game. We knew it was going to be difficult. They had suffered a severe defeat against Modena, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy in their gym. We have done rather well until 20, then they stepped up and we couldn’t keep up”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We knew we had to do the job today. We managed to get a victory which we badly needed. These are three crucial points before facing the next game”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Alletti 6, Van Harskamp, Petric 16, Daldello 1, Giovi (L), Tamburo 14, Vujevic 13, Edgar 1, Semenzato 7. DNP Van Rekom, Tomassetti, Schwarz, Pochini. Coach. Kovac.

Perugia goes back to winning ways in its arena against Ravenna and consolidates its seventh place in the table. Discipline and a good combination of block and dig made the difference. Giovi was everywhere and Petric was accurate in attack. He was named MVP with his 61%.

Nemanja Petric (Sir Safety Perugia): “Good game for us. I think the team played at a good level, disciplined in dig and at the net, while we have not been especially bright on the serve. Anyway, I am very happy with these three points taken at home. In the A1, it’s always difficult to get a good result”.

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Ravenna): “We tried our best, you have to give credit to Perugia, a small team that plays like a top team. They made very few mistakes, they are well-organised, balanced, they know what they’re doing and they are excellent in dig”.
