MARMI LANZA VERONA – CASA MODENA 1-3 (21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-27)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Kosmina 1, Ter Horst 15, Gotsev 10, Meoni, Bolla 1, Pesaresi (L), Gavotto 11, Peacock 1, Viafara 10, Fedrizzi 11. DNP Centomo, De Marchi. Coach. Bagnoli.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Catellani (L), Sala 8, Quesque 15, Celitans 22, Pinelli, Kovacevic 14, Baranowicz 2, Piscopo 8. DNP Bevilacqua, Deroo, Casadei, Vesely. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Tight encounter. Modena came out on top but Verona is ready to contest some referee decisions that they think have handed the two points to Modena at the end of the fourth set. An ace from Fedrizzi at 24 all was wrongly called out. Modena eventually took it 25-27.

Stefano Filippi (GM Marmi Lanza Verona): “We have to remain united in this difficult moment. The results are not coming but we must have faith because we have seen a reaction from the team. It’s true that such behavior from the refs are extremely damaging as we could see on television, damaging for the club, and the work done every day. It’s a lack of respect towards the boys who train every day in the gym, and to the coaching staff. And the attitude of the delegate, who threatened our managerial staff and vice-president, was as poor”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “As long as the rhythm was low, we were in control, then Verona increased the pace of the game, thanks to Meoni too, and we started to struggle. It’s been tough but these are three crucial points. We have made great steps forwards in the table in recent weeks but we have faded in training, we have to start working harder again”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Elia, Ricciardello, Paparoni (L), Falaschi 1, Dolfo, Ferreira, Sabbi 16, Ferreira 9, Yosifov 12, Cester 8, Casoli 9. DNP Krumins. Coach. Gulinelli.

First return game and first home defeat for Cuneo. MVP: Cristian Casoli, while the top scorers of the game were Sokolov (Cuneo) and Sabbi (Castellana Grotte) with 16 points each.

Cristian Casoli (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “The club is working well, we are improving bit by bit. Cuneo is a team composed of great stars, they are going through a tough spell, but I’m sure they’ll find a way to re-emerge. We have been lucky to meet them now, and win the game”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Training must be done with a certain intensity and focus and this week I have not seen any of that. The fans have the right to express their feelings but it should not come to insults”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-23)

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Pajenk 1, Zaytsev 15, Parodi 6, Stankovic 5, Monopoli, Henno (L), Travica 2, Starovic 11, Kooy 1, Podrascanin 10. DNP Randazzo. Coach. Giuliani.

Giuliani’s team began the second half of season with a convincing win over San Giustino although it did have to work hard to get the points. They made it difficult for them in the first with 6 mistakes on the serve. Fenoglio’s boys registered a low 33% in attack but still made it to 23 all before surrendering to Zaytsev. San Giustino was also ahead 18-15 in the third but once again it’s Zaytsev that showed the way for the Italian champs.

Marko Podrascanin (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Important win. Three crucial points to stay close at the top. We have definitely not played our best game but that’s precisely why we are extremely happy with the 3-0, even more than on other occasions. That’s also how you recognize a top team”.

Goran Maric (Altotevere San Giustino): “We’re a bit disappointed with the first and third set, in which we threw away all the good things we’d done with poor mistakes on important points. When you play against teams of this level, you just can’t give anything away”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (22-25, 17-25, 23-25)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Montesanti (L), Coscione, Cortellazzi, Kaliberda 5, Farina (L), Forni 3, Rocamora, Badawy 2, Buti 3, Klapwijk 17, Barone 3, Urnaut 13. DNP Presta. Coach. Blengini.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 11, Birarelli 6, Juantorena 10, Vieira De Oliveira 2, Lanza 1, Djuric 8, Colaci (L), Stokr 13, Chrtiansky Jr, Bari (L). DNP Sintini, Uchikov, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

Trento took revenge on the first round home loss by winning in Vibo Valentia as Juantorena stood out. This is Vibo’s first home defeat of the season. Trento registered a huge 11 blocks. MVP: Stokr.

Emiliano Cortellazzi (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We started well in an intense first set, both teams played well but they stayed more composed than us. We lost our way a bit in the second set and chasing a team like Trento is never easy. In the last set, we tried to give everything we had but that wasn’t enough. Still, even if we lost, we’ve had a good performance”.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Itas Diatec Trentino): “We prepared this game very carefully, we knew Vibo was a tough team to face, especially at home, they had beaten us in the first round. Fortunately we had time to prepare it well this week. I am happy with the win because we stay top of the league and can now prepare the cup game with a positive mindset”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – CMC RAVENNA 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Corvetta 1, Papi 8, Fei 19, Simon 13, Holt 10, Maruotti 16, De Cecco. DNP Latelli, Tavana, Ogurcak, Tencati, Vettori. Coach. Monti.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 10, Owens 10, Zhukouski 1, Psarras, Sirri, Tabanelli (L), Zanuto 11, Moro 11, Bellei 5, Pelekoudas 5. DNP Mazzotti, Di Franco, Radunovic. Coach. Fresa.

After a bad first set, Piacenza regained control and obtained its third consecutive win. Ravenna could not get passed Piacenza’s wall (15 blocks). The attack of the hosts was extremely effective too with 59%. MVP: Fei (19 points).

Luca Monti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “We did well to remain focused and find the resources to take this victory. We don’t want to look at the league table, we’ll just concentrate on the Modena game now”.

Stefano Moro (CMC Ravenna): “They played better than us and logically won. Nothing much else to say. In the last three sets, we lacked the things Piacenza lacked in the first set: we had a bad reception and made a lot of mistakes on the serve”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-1 (15-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-23)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Alletti 1, Van Harskamp 6, Petric 12, Daldello, Giovi (L), Tomassetti 11, Schwarz, Tamburo 17, Vujevic 10, Edgar, Semenzato 11. DNP Van Rekom, Pochini. Coach. Kovac.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rauwerdink 17, Rossini (L), Gitto 1, Sottile, Jarosz, Patriarca 8, Verhees 12, Troy 20, Noda Blanco 8, Cisolla 1, Fragkos 2. DNP Prandi, Guemart. Coach. Prandi.

Came-back victory for Perugia who leapfrogs its opponent of the day in the table. The first two sets were one-way traffic, one for Latina, the second for Perugia, while the third and fourth set were extremely tight. Perugia registered a total of 15 blocks as Tomasetti was named mVP.

Vincenzo Tamburo (Sir Safety Perugia): “Three points as Christmas present but which we deserved because we played a little better than Latina. We were poor in the first set, but it was also credit to them, then we improved on the serve and at the net. This win will give us confidence ahead of the cup, even if we know we’ll need a breakthrough against Trento”.

Salvatore Rossini (Andreoli Latina): “The first two sets, with each team taking one, were one-way traffic. Then, it was tight in the third and fourth, and Perugia got a good response from its bench with Harskamp and Tomasetti. Shame for us. It’s a negative moment that we have to face with courage to get back on track”.
