Piacenza collected another victory in the Challenge Cup semi-final in Liberec and qualified for the final. Just over an hour of play was enough for the Italians to register their tenth consecutive win in the competition. Piacenza shined at the net with 15 blocks, and did well too in attack (62%) and reception (66%).

Luca Monti (Coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “To be honest this game was very similar to the first set of the first leg, with the opponent that immediately escaped only to quickly lose their way. We did a good job of creating break opportunities at the net and on the serve, two areas that allowed us to lead the second and third set, when our opponents did not even play. I liked the quality of our game, we worked hard and well in every area. The place was packed and the fans were fantastic, we have to congratulate our supporters too who came all the way here. Now we’ll face Ural Ufa, a team similar to ours. We have to do everything we can now to take a trophy that the club and the city deserves”.

Round 21: Perugia won Saturday night’s game

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 1-3 (19-25, 11-25, 25-17, 21-25)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Alletti 6, Van Harskamp, Petric 14, Daldello 1, Giovi (L), Tomassetti 2, Schwarz 1, Tamburo 16, Vujevic 8, Edgar 1, Semenzato. DNP Van Rekom, Pochini. DNP. Kovac.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Coscione 1, Cortellazzi, Kaliberda, Farina (L), Forni, Rocamora, Badawy 12, Buti 8, Klapwijk 20, Barone 8, Urnaut 19. DNP Montesanti, Lavia. Coach. Blengini.

Probably Perugia’s worst performance of the season as Vibo inflicted them their fourth home loss in 2012-13. Thanks to this three points, Vibo are back in the race for this sixth place. While Perugia was totally lost in the first two sets, Klapwijk and Urnaut (MVP) were working on all cylinders for Vibo. Perugia was back to life in the third but the two spikers above-mentioned made sure Vibo would go home with the three points in the fourth set.

Aimone Alletti (Sir Safety Perugia): “Incredibly enough we started off well, only to stop playing quickly and for two whole sets, and I really don’t know why. We tried to get back in it with a good third set, but that was not enough. It’s obviously disappointing to lose this way”.

Rocco Barone (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Good game for us, we played at a good level, this will give us a boost and some confidence. I think we played better than our opponents in just about every area of the game, especially in attack. Anyway, the three points is what matters here”.
