ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 11, Sintini, Birarelli 7, Juantorena 8, Vieira De Oliveira, Uchikov 5, Lanza 2, Djuric 9, Colaci (L), Stokr 7, Chrtiansky Jr 3, Bari (L), Burgsthaler 2. Coach. Stoytchev.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Rak, Kosmina, Ter Horst 5, Gotsev 8, Meoni, Bolla 1, Pesaresi (L), Gavotto 13, Peacock, Viafara 3, Fedrizzi 5, De Marchi 1. DNP Centomo. Coach. Bagnoli.

Trentino took the first opportunity to lock the top spot of the regular season. To do so, the World Champs only needed two points put took all three against Verona. The difference between the two teams is clear in every department of the game as well as in the number of mistakes made. Djuric had 78% in attack, 2 aces and a total of 9 points which earned him the MVP award. Juantorena (60%) and Kaziyski (60%) also had excellent performances.

Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We had a decent game, we put in practice what we’d seen during the week in training. We never slowed down despite the fact it was a rather easy game, and credit to us for doing that. We wanted the points to win the regular season, but it is only an intermediary stage that leads to what we want to achieve in this end of season. Being first gives you some advantage and we’ll try to make the most of it”.

Michele Fedrizzi (Marmi Lanza Verona): “In the first set, Trento made it very hard for us, while we have been a little shy. We tried to recover in the second part of the game but against such a team it’s always difficult to express your game. I really wanted to do well in this game but I didn’t. Still, it was great to be back in the PalaTrento, even as an opponent”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22) CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 12, Zaytsev 29, Stankovic 7, Kovar, Monopoli, Henno (L), Travica 2, Kooy 14, Podrascanin 7. DNP Pajenk, Starovic. Coach. Giuliani.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Antonov 11, De Pandis (L), Wijsmans 16, Kohut 5, Grbic 2, Della Lunga, Sokolov 22, Abdelaziz 1, Rossi 8. DNP Marchisio, Galliani. Coach. Piazza.

Macerata secured second place with a game in hand thanks to a 3-1 victory over Cuneo in front of yet another sold-out crowd. This means they will begin the quarter-final series with a 1-0 advantage, and so will they in the semis if they qualify. More good news for Macerata as Jiri Kovar made his comeback five months after his knee injury. Cuneo was without Ngapeth, who got injured the day before, while Macerata rested Parodi because of abdominal pain.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “Intense and nervous game, we wanted the end the regular season at home by sealing second place and we did it. This will give us a good advantage in the playoffs, and also a 90% chance to take part in the Champions League next season, this is therefore an important achievement. We are also very happy with the superb return from Jiri Kovar, who trained a lot at badminton and had a few sessions with the team. What we’ve seen of him is enough to understand the kind of talent we have been missing during the season”.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Macerata has been more consistent than us during the game, this was the key to their victory. Let’s not blow this loss out of proportion, our goal is now to finish the regular season with a win, and then get ready for the Champions League Final Four and the playoffs”.

CASA MODENA – ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-20)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 4, Bisi, Deroo 12, Quesque 8, Celitans 17, Vesely 10, Pinelli, Baranowicz, Piscopo. DNP Donadio, Kovacevic. Coach. Lorenzetti.

ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO: Fiore 2, Van Den Dries 1, Guttmann 3, Mc Kibbin, Coali, Cesarini (L), Bohme 10, Mattioli 1, Torre 1, De Togni 1, Maric 8, Lo Bianco (L), Cebulj 7. Coach. Fenoglio.

In front of over 3000 supporters, Modena swept San Giustino and secured fifth place with a game in hand. Modena will face Cuneo in the playoffs quarter-finals. Solid performance from Lorenzetti’s men who registered 57% in reception and attack and had 8 blocks. Mvp: Michele Baranowicz (Casa Modena)

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “Training has been complicated last week. The boys have done very well though and we managed to get what we wanted, which is to be in the top six of the regular season. We are happy and now we just have to keep working…”

Marco Fenoglio (Coach Altotevere San Giustino): “The team is carrying out heavy loads of work to be ready for the playoffs. Besides, we knew we were up against a team that had improved a lot and was stronger than us. Today, Modena was much better than us, but we definitely could have played better too”

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – CMC RAVENNA 3-1 (29-31, 25-19, 25-23, 25-17)

Castellana Grotte clinched victory in a hard-fought game: A historical victory that hands the club 8th place and the possibility to have the playoffs first round decider at home. Once again the MVP was Giulio Sabbi.

Flavio Gulinelli (coach BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “It’s a result that makes us very happy, and in spite of some unfair critics, at the end of the first set we fought hard for the shirt and obtained a historical result for us and Castellana Grotte at the end of a difficult encounter. Our opponents had nothing to lose and they came here to play all out. We handled this situation well, imposed our game and deservedly won”.

Mauro Fresa (coach CMC Ravenna): “We tried our best but Castellana was excellent and led by a superb Sabbi, who really hurt us with his serve. We lacked consistency on the serve, especially in the clutch moments, and some referee decisions have probably not done us any favour either. But let’s think about the future, we’ve been thinking about it for a while, the club will take its decisions. But in the meantime, we’ll try to finish the season with dignity against Trento next Sunday”.
