A little joy after a terrible week for Perugia. Following the dramatic death of Stefan Vujevic, son of captain Goran, there has been an emotional minute silence as Goran was holding his younger daughter Natalia in his arms. “I played because Stefan would have wanted me to” he said.
This was a hard-fought game with two teams that made it two hours of top volleyball. The main offensive weapons were Atanasijevic for Perugia (22 points) and Quesque for Modena (19 points). Kovac’s boys had full control of the tie-break.
Slobodan Kovac (coach Sir Safety Perugia): “This victory goes way beyond any expectations. We were tense at the start. It was really tough to get on court tonight. I want to congratulate the whole team and especially Goran Vujevic, he is a very special man. As for the game itself, I think we’re not doing too well yet at the net, we have to be more aggressive. Modena proved they were a team in good shape, we did a good job of eventually winning it”.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “For totally different reasons, our day has been difficult too. One of our goals was to try to push it to the fifth set and, in spite of the result, we are disappointed with the second set. In the fifth, we made two inaccurate digs and they took advantage”.
