Verona came back from the PalaKemon arena with all three points on Saturday night. Città di Castello built a four-point lead, but the visitors fought back and celebrated on a Boninfante block. Thanks to 2 consecutive blocks from Zingel on Van Walle, Verona escaped 13-9 in the second, the hosts reacted 20-21, but only to lose it 21-25 on clutch points from Gasparini and White. Verona tried to seal it in three sets (16-13) but Città di Castello had not said its last word and won the set. At 13-10 for the hosts, Ter Horst’s run of serve proved crucial (13-17), Città di Castello would never recover.

Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona): “Just like in all three league games, the key factors were the serve and the block-dig area. They struggled against our floater, which allowed us to get back in the first and fourth set”.

Matteo Piano (Altotevere Città di Castello): “We lacked fighting spirit and determination in the first two sets. In the third set, the attitude was good, but that was not enough to alter the outcome of the game. This is round 3, there’s still a long way to go, we have to keep working to get better in certain situations”.
