CASA MODENA – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 2-3 (17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 30-32, 11-15)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Donadio (L), Sala 9, Sket 2, Deroo 13, Quesque 13, Kampa 4, Bartman 15, Beretta 16, Hendriks 1, Krumins. DNP Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

In front of 4000 Modena supporters, Piacenza won the derby at the end of two hours of great volleyball. Modena made it hard for one of the league favourites but will be disappointed as it failed to convert three match points in the fourth set. Piacenza found some key run of serves when it mattered in each set and they tallied 15 blocks. Mvp:  Simon (Copra Elior Piacenza).

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “I have two feelings right now: on the one hand I am proud of my boys who gave everything they had, on the other hand I am a bit worried. You could see the difference between the two sides, Piacenza has a deep quality bench. We did a good job of taking advantage when they went through bad spells. We were very close, but I am not disappointed, I think this is a good point taken in the race to make it into the Italian Cup”.

Luca Monti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “We’re not training much and we’re travelling a lot, so playing those games help us to get better. The boys did well, they stayed humble. We can do even better on the serve and at the net”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Henno (L), Zaytsev 11, Stankovic 7, Kovar 10, Kurek 16, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 5. DNP Paparoni, Patriarca, Monopoli, Giombini. Coach. Giuliani.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Paolucci 1, Petric 4, Giovi (L), Cupkovic 2, Barone 7, Della Lunga 1, Mitic 3, Vujevic 3, Atanasijevic 15, Semenzato 1. DNP Buti, Della Corte, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

In a packed arena, two unbeaten teams fought it out in what was called “the Serbian derby” as 8 Balkan players took part. In the end, Macerata is the one remaining undefeated, they did it by literally thrashing Perugia for two sets and sealed it in just over an hour of play. 12-2 is the count of blocks in Macerata’s favour. MVP: Baranowicz.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We did a great job, Perugia is an excellent team with quality players, they will definitely have better games than tonight. We’re happy it went like that for us, we can focus on Wednesday’s Novosibirsk game now. The only negative note was a couple of bad spells in the block-dig area in the third set. The team is getting better in the schemes and some players are getting sharper physically. Shame Parodi got injured though”.

Boban Kovac (Coach Sir Safety Perugia): “The blocking was the difference tonight, beside the fact that some of my Serbian players were probably hindered by a bit of emotion as they had some teammates of their national team on the other side of the net. Losing in Macerata can happen, they were stronger tonight. Buti and Barone were not hundred percent today, my main worry will be to have everybody fit for the next game”.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17)

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink 7, Marchisio (L), Gonzalez 2, De Pandis (L), Kohut 5, De Togni 11, Freriks, Rouzier 13, Maruotti 15. DNP Antonov, Casadei, Alletti. Coach. Piazza.

ANDREOLI LATINA: De Rocco 3, Rossini (L), Gitto 8, Sottile, Michalovic 17, Skrimov 7, Verhees 3, Paris, Noda Blanco 1, Fragkos 5, Torres 4. DNP Candellaro, Tailli. Coach. Santilli.

Before the start of the game, the number 7 shirt of Wout Wijsmans was officially withdrawn. The game was crucial for Cuneo, for its confidence and to get points on the board, and they did not disappoint. MVP: Gabriele Maruotti.

Matteo Paris (Andreoli Latina): “We made too many mistakes, shame we did not take the second set, we were at 21-21. The fixture list has not been kind to us: first Macerata and now Cuneo. They played better and deserved the victory. We’re a young group and we have a lot of work on, but we have good players and time”.

Jeroen Rauwerdink (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “Extremely satisfied both for the result and the way we played. Congratulations to Maruotti and Gonzalez because they led the way brilliantly. This was a very positive performance, we showed good progress which means we’re on the right track”.

DIATEC TRENTINO – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-18)

DIATEC TRENTINO: Birarelli 10, Solé 3, Ferreira 7, Suxho 2, Lanza 12, Sokolov 16, Szabo 3, Colaci (L), Burgsthaler 4. DNP Sintini, Thei, De Paola, Fedrizzi. Coach. Serniotti.

Trentino got the momentum of its four straight victories going into this match-up and imposed its will on Molfetta. In its first outing on the tricolor court, Trento played like a real legitimate champion. Molfetta found it hard to limit Trento’s servers (10 aces). The home side also played well in attack, well guided by the Suxho, back in action.

MVP Sokolov

Donald Suxho (Diatec Trentino): “I am happy we got this result and happy to be back. I needed to play after a week without official games. We did well to finish it off in three sets. We’ll focus on the Champions League now, we have an important game in Turkey on Wednesday”.

Cosimo Marco Piscopo (Exprivia Molfetta): “it’s always nice to come back to Trento and meet all those friends and the supporters. But I am disappointed with the first two sets in which we wasted a lot of opportunities, and our serve had little impact. And when this happens, Trento punishes you”.

CMC RAVENNA – TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-23) CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 2, Cricca 3, Toniutti 4, Tillie 14, Jeliazkov, Patriarca, Klapwijk 20, Cester 11, Bari (L), Cebulj 21. DNP Kauliakamoa Jr, Koumentakis. Coach. Bonitta.

The Pala De Andrè erupted as Ravenna celebrated a victory they had been waiting for in 582 days. Cebulj was named MVP well assisted by an excellent Klapwijk, who bounced back after an under-par first set.

Marco Bonitta (Coach CMC Ravenna): “As a local, I enjoy this victory even more. In the second and third set, they showed the potential of a team that has to keep improving with consistency”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “This was a tight encounter, which we could have pushed to the tie-break, but we gave it away too easily the second and third set”.
