Latina welcomes another tower in its roster: Simon Van de Voorde. Just like Semenzato, he stands one centimeter above Starovic at 208. The Belgian middle blocker is coming off the final four of the World League second tier in Sydney, his team finishing third. The Belgium team has a group of emerging talents and they finished seventh in the European Championships 2013. At club level, Van de Voorde played last season in Poland with the Jastrzebski Wegiel team coached by Lorenzo Bernardi. He helped the team finish third of the Champions League, reach the league semi-finals and the cup final.
“I bought a book to start learning Italian but I have yet to open it – Simon said – I had a great experience last year, we had a strong side and we surprisingly finished third of the Champions League. Latina will be a new challenge in my career. A new country, new language, the kind of changes that make life interesting”.
