Such a great show had not occured in the PalaEvangelisti arena for a while! Perugia had the better of the league leaders Macerata after over two hours of action that had the four thousand fans go crazy. Amazing atmosphere and amazing level of play. Atanasijevic stole the headline with 31 points and the MVP title.

Slobodan Kovac (Coach Sir Safety Perugia): “The boys have done a great job after a difficult week for us. I’m thinking about Della Lunga who started a game which was not easy as Macerata couldn’t wait to bounce back. But everyone has been fantastic, especially in the tie-break. I want to underline the excellent performance of Mitic when he came on. Winning against such a great team in front of those amazing fans is special. But now we have to focus on Wednesday’s game which is extremely important for us”.

Stefano Recine (Sport director Cucine Lube Banca delle Marche Macerata): “It’s been a tough game for us. I can’t argue with the effort of the lads, but we’re struggling right now. It has to be said as well that Perugia had a great game. Shame because we had it in our hands in the end and we failed to seal it”.

Ravenna comes away from Vibo with a tie-break win at the end of a battle that lasted over two hours. This is Ravenna’s first victory in the return games, while Vibo is still waiting for its first joy. MVP Mengozzi.

Alberto Cisolla (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “None of the two teams has ever given up. It hurts to lose a tight tie-break like that after having tied it in the fourth. We lacked a little composure at times. It’s been a very strange game psychologically. Now we’re going to Piacenza without any pressure, we’ll try to enjoy ourselves”.

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Ravenna): “We managed to play this encounter with intensity. They had these amazing supporters on their side, it’s great to play in this gym. We turned things around after the Modena game, we’ve trained better. Now our goal is to make as many points as possible against the teams that we can realistically beat”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – CASA MODENA 3-1 (29-27, 25-22, 17-25, 26-24)

Piacenza took all three points at the end of a nervous and tight fourth set. The match-up between the two setters, De Cecco and Bruninho, was spectacular while Simon was named MVP of the game (22 points, 6 blocks).

Luca Tencati (Copra Elior Piacenza): “Our reaction in the last run was incredible. We managed to get back on our feet after a difficult moment despite the fact we’re going through a very intense period”.

Hendriks Niki (Casa Modena): “Shame it ended like that with those decisions which, in spite of the regulations, can change the atmosphere and outcome of a game. But at the end of the day, the scoreboard tells the story of the game. We’re left with bitterness and anger”.

Without Thijs Ter Horst, Verona did not manage to close the first two sets in its favour despite the fact they were ahead all the way. Gasparini finished top scorer with 32 points (3 aces), while spiker Fromm was named MVP (24 points, 59% in attack).

Mitja Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona): “We had not much working out for us tonight. Our level of play was poor on perfect reception, then the overall play was average in the second, we did not do well in reception and attack in the fourth. Giani gathered us at the end of the game, he repeated to us things we should already know. Let’s start over with the Italian Cup”.

Christian Fromm (Altotevere Città di Castello): “I am thrilled with how it went. I want to thank the fans who supported us in the most critical moments of the game. We started off slowly, but did well at the end of sets. It was a good game, we did a great job of turning it in our favor. We made the most of our serve and attack”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (19-25, 17-25, 23-25)

Suxho was named MVP as the Italian champions came away from Molfetta with three points and stretched their winning streak.

Bruno Zanuto (Exprivia Molfetta): “We made poor mistakes in Città di Castello , the group did not play with the right attitude. Today, it was much better, but Trento did not leave us many opportunities, they played with great composure in the difficult moments. With an attack and a serve they could get out of tricky situations”.

Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino): “We knew how dangerous Molfetta could be in this heated gym, especially after the Champions League. The fact we have many games in few days forces us to work a lot with the weights, but today we played cleverly and with focus. Congratulations to Molfetta, which is a tough team”.
