1 game in hand: Modena Volley, Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia, Sir Safety Perugia, Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro, Vero Volley Monza, Revivre Milano

Tonazzo Padova – Revivre Milano

Two positive results in a row for Padova who will try to add points to the ones taken against Molfetta (3-1) and Città di Castello (tie-break loss). On his return Rosso scored 17 points. Milan is currently bottom of the league due to 5 defeats on a 3-0 score. Milan need points and confidence.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (Padova won both)

Andrea Garghella (Tonazzo Padova): “The league table is misleading because Milan, just like us, faced some very strong teams to start the season. They will come here to win so we have to be very careful in reception because they have some powerful spikers and players that can be dangerous at the net too. We’ll have to try to be more consistent than last Sunday. This won’t be an easy game for any of the two teams”.

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “Their main quality is their solid team play. It’s no surprise to see that six of their seven players already played together last season. On the other hand, they lack experience in this division. We have to deal with the burden of five defeats running, but this is a great opportunity for us: this game and the next will tell us where we stand”.

Top Volley Latina – Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino

Latina goes for four straight after wins over Molfetta, Verona away and Castello home. Latina moved up to fifth and Starovic is now top scorer of the league with 119 points, almost 20 a game. Simon Van de Voorde is another one to watch out for, he has been brilliant on his first experience in Italy (he tallied 33 blocks already). They will be important to try to get a result against Trento, who has been unstoppable both in the league and CEV Cup. A 3-0 win in their last outing guaranteed a place in the CEV Cup 8th of finals as Matey Kaziyski stood out once again.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 28 (20-8 Trento)

Andrea Semenzato (Top Volley Latina): “We’ll be up against a tough opponent, they have been playing well and they’re aiming for the top places. This will be an important test for us after our victory in Verona, another ambitious team. This win should motivate us even more”.

Filippo Lanza (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “Latina is coming off a valuable win in Verona and will be home for this crucial game. We have a tough task ahead, we have inevitably found it harder on the road to impose our serve, which is a fundamental that has often helped us to make the difference. If we can find our rhythm on the serve, we will have our chance”.

Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia – Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro

The Italian champions got off the mark in the Champions League with a 3-0 win in Paris and now they focus on the league as they aim to keep up with Modena at the top. Out last week because of a knee injury, Kovar will be back against Castello, who is going through a positive spell having taken points in its last two games. A point in Latina was followed by the first win of the season against Padova. However, setter Kaszap and Hungarian scorer Baroti are both out again.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 4 (3-1 Treia)

Dusan Bonacic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “We want to win against Città di Castello to stay top of the league. We have to stay focused and ready to conquer our sixth consecutive win in the league. Our opponents will try to make it hard for us and get a breakthrough, but with the right attitude, we can give our fans another victory following the one over Paris in the Champions League on Thursday”.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “This is a game like any other for us. Nobody gives anything away in this league. We will try to play our game: in volleyball you either win or lose, we’ll try our best despite the fact we have to reorganise ourselves given that we’ll be without Baroti”.

Sir Safety Perugia – CMC Ravenna

Perugia stepped up a gear in November: Four crucial wins in Italy and in the Champions League. Grbic’s men moved up to sixth in the league, while they’re top of their group in Europe. Giovi was back against Tours and immediately contributed. Vujevic and Barone came on too with excellent results. They will try to get a fourth consecutive victory against Ravenna, who have to make do without their Brazilian outside hitter Renan for a month. He had to undergo surgery on his left ring finger, which he injured in the warm up of last Sunday’s game against Trento.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 6 (4-2 Perugia)

Thomas Beretta (Sir Safety Perugia): “A tough one for us. They might have some injury but they remain a strong team. We have already lost against them in pre-season and they have been playing very well in this start of season. We’ll need fighting spirit and character. We’ve seen that as soon as we put our foot off the pedal, we get in trouble. We’ve done well of late and gained confidence, but it does not take much to fall back down. The points at stake are very important, we have to try to keep our winning streak going to get closer to the top teams”.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna)“This is a second very tough game in the last three but we will try to get something out of it in spite of being without Renan. We also have to make the most of those difficult encounters to prepare for what will be a crucial month of December for us, which will start with a Challenge Cup game”.

Modena Volley – Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta

Modena in total control in this first part of season. They have already been rested but are top all the same, having lost just one set in five games. Lorenzetti’s men were ecstatic following their derby win over Piacenza. They are full of confidence ahead of the clash against Molfetta, whose roster is packed with former Modena players (Piscopo, Kooistra, Sket and Bossi). They got back on track in the last round with a tie-break win over Monza.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (1 each)

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Modena Volley): “That won’t be an easy game. They play good volleyball, they are motivated and have a nice mix of young and experienced players. Now we’re top of the league, they’ll all come to Modena and give 110%, we know that but I’m sure we’ll give it our best, pushed by our unique fans as usual. We have to win to continue ripping the reward of the hard work carried out thus far, which led us to lose just one set in five games, a top quality result. We can’t afford to lose our focus, let’s get down to business and stay top. The boys work hard in training, I am confident, I really believe in this group, I believe in the men I work with more than the athletes”.

Francesco Del Vecchio (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “This is a very tricky road game. We’ll have to fight for every point if we want to make it hard for them. I think it will be important to play with great fighting spirit without thinking about the fact that the team on the other side of the net is a serious contender for the league title”.

Vero Volley Monza – Calzedonia Verona

Monza obtained its first point last week as it pushed Molfetta to a tie-break. William Padura Diaz was superb and named MVP in defeat with 21 points as he played with great fighting spirit. Verona has conceded two consecutive defeats against Perugia away and Latina at home. A fundamental game for Giani’s men to move back up the table from their current 9th place.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: None

Claudio Bonati (Sport Director Vero Volley Monza): “This will be a very difficult game, they have one of the best rosters in the league. They lost their last one home, so they will be even more up for it. But after our last game against Molfetta, in which we took our first point, we are extremely motivated too. We’ll try to give our fans a first victory. It’s going to be tough but we will give it our best shot”.

Manuel Coscione (Calzedonia Verona): “We’re facing a tough task in Monza. Our opponents took a point in their last game, while we are angry for points. We have to play it out fine in terms of psychological approach. We have to focus on playing good volleyball, concentrating on our own side of the net”.

Serie A2 UnipolSai

Round 6

Conad Reggio Emilia – Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia. Reggio plays host to the league leaders as the game goes live on RAI SPORT. Cantagalli’s boys are feeling good after two consecutive tie-break wins against Ortona and Tuscania. Vibo remains the favourite of the contest with Gavotto just seven points away from the 6500 in regular season. Vibo is after a fifth consecutive win.
