CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 1-3 (17-25, 26-24, 22-25, 23-25) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Henno (L), Parodi 15, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 8, Kovar, Sabbi 18, Shumov 2, Kurek 17, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 8. DNP Monopoli, Bonacic. Coach. Giuliani.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 6, Sottile 4, Skrimov, Tailli, Van De Voorde 5, Rossi 5, Starovic 22, Semenzato, Urnaut 18. DNP Pellegrino, Davis. Coach. Blengini.

Latina stunned Treia in its own house and prevented them from taking advantage of Modena’s loss to go top. Besides, Blengini’s men put an end to a 21-game home winning streak from the Italian Champions. Treia made far too many mistakes on the serve (28) and almost as many in attack, while Latina was effective from the 9m and generous in its effort. Urnaut scored 18 points and was named MVP.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Top Volley Latina): “I was hoping we could win it. I asked the team to play like we train. Tonight we haven’t given much away to our opponent and that was our goal. Fortunately, this aspect was enough to get the win. The team had an excellent attitude, they accepted the challenge when it was tight knowing it was going to be a long and tiring battle. I hope that thanks to this win the boys will acquire more belief in their ability. These are definitely three spectacular points for us”.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “We have lost against a team that put an excellent roster together. They had what it takes to make it hard for us and they did it. We did not do our job tonight, starting with our serve, we lacked sharpness and made too many mistakes. I think this is where it all started to go wrong. We did not play well, we have not been able to train well with all the time spent on the road and the injuries. But I would like to see more from my team. We won’t have time to reset, we’ll be right back on court against Molfetta and then against Modena, a key game for our position in the Italian Cup. We need a better attitude than the one seen tonight, this is a factor than can have an influence on our technique too”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – COPRA PIACENZA 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 17-25, 16-14)

TONAZZO PADOVA: Vianello (L), Mattei 4, Orduna 3, Giannotti 15, Balaso (L), Rosso 22, Volpato 4, Garghella, Aguillard 4, Milan 1, Quiroga 22. DNP Gozzo, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

COPRA PIACENZA: Alletti 11, Marra (L), Poey 13, Vermiglio 3, Papi 5, Ter Horst 7, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 5, Zlatanov 27, Ostapenko 4, Tencati, Kohut 7. DNP Rodrigues Tavares. Coach. Radici.

The game began after the first serve done by Francesca, a girl who had a liver transplant and represent the Sofia Association, the charity partner of the club. While Padova had been rested last weekend, Piacenza was coming off a Champions League victory. In the end, the hosts came out on top at the tie-break. This fifth set was intense, a Kohut serve mistake gave Padova an 8-6 lead and the hosts would hang on to that minimum margin till MVP Rosso scored the ace that sealed victory (16-14).

Valerio Baldovin (Coach Tonazzo Padova): “We have done a better job in the clutch moments of the game. We made improvements in our level of play and attitude. We played a top quality team but we played well in dig and on the counter, and we served better than usual”.

Andrea Radici (Coach Copra Piacenza): “We deserved to lose. We should not make any excuses, but it’s true it’s been a difficult week with three long games which clearly did not help. Today we lost the flow of our game and Padova took advantage to win it”.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO – MODENA VOLLEY 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 29-27)

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 12, Birarelli 6, Zygadlo, Nemec 18, Giannelli, Lanza 10, Solé 7, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi. DNP Nelli, Thei, Mazzone, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 3, Sala 3, Petric 8, Boninfante, Casadei, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 8, Piano 7, Verhees 5, Kovacevic 3, Vettori 13. DNP Donadio, Ishikawa. Coach. Lorenzetti.

The PalaTrento is what was needed to stop Modena’s superb winning streak. Modena had won its last two in Trento but lost 16 of 23. Intensity and great dig were the hosts’ main weapons against Lorenzetti’s men who struggled at the net and were not as effective as usual on the serve. MVP Nemec was outstanding, he had 6 blocks for a total of 18 points (69% in attack).

Martin Nemec (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We had prepared the game well even though we had little time to do so. The bottom line is that we have been better than them today in almost every fundamentals. We took advantage of the push of our fans to get a result than might have been unexpected but definitely deserved. This is a win that can make us dream”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Modena Volley): “This defeat does not change the idea we had about this league. I know how strong is Trento. We have to be able to step up a level when something goes wrong like it occurred tonight”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – VERO VOLLEY MONZA 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 15-13)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 2, Fromm 21, Paolucci, Giovi (L), Barone 12, Tzioumakas 1, Beretta 2, Vujevic 4, Atanasijevic 25, Fanuli (L), Maruotti 8. DNP De Cecco, Sunder. Coach. Grbic.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 10, Gotsev 12, Tiberti, Galliani 16, Padura Diaz 18, De Pandis (L), Jovovic 6, Vigil Gonzalez, Botto 11, Wang. DNP Procopio, Bonetti. Coach. Vacondio.

Tight battle in the PalaEvangelisti arena between Perugia and Monza. After exactly two hours of play, the hosts snatched victory in front of 2200 fans. At times Perugia looked out of sink and Atanasijevic and co made many mistakes. Still, they found the resources to fight back from a 2-1 deficit as they were led by MVP Barone, who had a great game both in attack and at the net.

Bino Rizzuto (Sport director Sir Safety Perugia): “Very tough game. We had a difficult time of late, we had to play various games with different line-ups. It went well this time, usually it’s easy to lose those kind of games. In the end, we did a great job to get back on our feet and get an important victory for us”.

Simone Tiberti (Vero Volley Monza): “The serve has been key. Our serve in the first and third made it difficult for their reception, while Atanasijevic’s run in the fourth made the difference. Then in the tie-break, we had our chances. At the end of the day, we’re satisfied, but with a better rhythm on the serve we could have won it”.

CMC RAVENNA – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA 2-3 (20-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-22, 7-15) – CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 10, Cavanna 2, Zappoli 11, Gabriele, Jeliazkov 20, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 5, Cester 11, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin, Cebulj 24. DNP Ricci, Koumentakis. Coach. Kantor.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 13, Noda Blanco, Sket 19, Del Vecchio 5, Spirito, Romiti (L), Kooistra 18, Bossi 15, Blagojevic 1, Hierrezuelo 6. DNP Puliti. Coach. Di Pinto.

Same score as last season. Ravenna lost it in the tie-break but in spite of the disappointment, the road to the cup quarter-finals remains open. If Molfetta loses without going to the tie-break against Treia on Boxing day, then it will be done. Ravenna could not count on the usual Renan who had a sub-par performance, though Jeliazkov was almost perfect in the third and fourth. Mofletta has been more consistent, especially on the serve, and that’s precisely thanks to its serve that it immediately escaped in the tie-break with Kooistra as star man. MVP Bossi Elia

Waldo Kantor (Coach CMC Ravenna): “We should not make excuses for this defeat, because Toniutti is gone now. It’s true there is Koumentakis’ injury and the fact that Renan has found it hard to get back in form from his injury”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (Coach Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “The boys did a great job to make up for the absence of Noda Bianco and Piscopo, who represents two important players for us. Our youngsters played with fighting spirit and guided us to a crucial win”.
