MODENA VOLLEY – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 32-30, 15-12) – MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 4, Donadio (L), Petric 21, Boninfante, Casadei 12, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 22, Piano 13, Verhees 9, Vettori 8. DNP Sala, Ishikawa, Kovacevic. Coach. Lorenzetti.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 10, Coscione 1, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Gasparini 17, Deroo 14, Bellei, Sander 21, Anzani 13. DNP Blasi, White, Centomo, Borgogno. Coach. Giani.

Modena had started the game with an explosive outburst: a 6-0 on a Verona team totally lost. But the rest of the game would be a long battle that would go all the way. In the tie-break, a block on Gasparini from Piano made it 6-4 for Modena. A three-men block on Petric would get Verona tied at 8 though. A superb dig from Rossini enabled Ngapeth to regain an 11-9 lead. Then the French and Casadei (MVP) helped the hosts seal the deal. Now Modena will face Macerata for the top spot.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Modena Volley): “I think that was an important game, extremely important. After the defeat against Trento, we could have lost again in the fourth set if we had not given everything we had left in the tank. Verona had a great game, they have top quality players who can handle the tough spells, but we came up strong in this one”.

Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “Useless to hide how disappointed I am, we played a great game and come back home with a loss we don’t deserve. In the fourth set, I think the refs had too much of a say in it, some decisions left me perplexed, extremely perplexed”.

COPRA PIACENZA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-21)

COPRA PIACENZA: Alletti 17, Marra (L), Poey 24, Vermiglio 2, Papi 5, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 1, Zlatanov 16, Ostapenko 9, Tencati, Rodrigues Tavares 1. DNP Page, Ter Horst. Coach. Radici.

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 13, Kauliakamoa Jr 2, Patriarca 2, Rizzo (L), Mattera, De Togni 11, Dos Santos 10, Veres 17, Preti, Valsecchi 6.

Piacenza had to win with maximum points in order to qualify for the cup quarters and it did just that. But on its way to a 3-1 win, Piacenza faced a lot of difficulties. Trailed 1-0 down, the hosts hanged on tight to take the following too before playing loosely in the fourth and enjoying their game. The key was the 10 aces from Piacenza for only 2 from Milan. MVP: Zlatanov.

Gabriele Cottarelli (Sport director Copra Piacenza): “It’s always important to win, win and losses should not be overlooked. But since I represent this club, I have to say one thing: it’s a real shame to hear a player like Samuele Papi being booed from the crowd. Samuele Papi has won it all, he’s always had respect for everyone on and off the court, he recently led Piacenza to win the Challenge Cup and an Italian Cup, and he helped us to reach a League final and Super Cup. Treating a person like him like that, I’m sorry but that’s really pathetic. People have no right, it might not be the best of times in the club but that’s no excuse to behave like that. People and fans forget that recently we have spent five months without talking of volleyball but about the end of the club. Not being able to play great volleyball is not only the players’ fault but also the club’s fault, coaching and medical staff. The supporters can express their frustration when there is no effort, but right now if there’s one thing the team is trying to show is effort. I repeat, right now the club wants to defend Papi, and it would defend anyone in the team”.

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “We wanted to give it a good fight, and I think I can be satisfied with the way the team battled. We came to Piacenza trying to get something out of it and we went very close, but then their consistency and intensity on the serve made the difference. But I have to say that really hurts to hear a champion like Samuele Papi being booed”.

ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 0-3 (22-25, 17-25, 19-25) – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO: Teppan, Corvetta 1, Dolfo, Kaszap, Baroti 14, Tosi (L), Della Lunga 7, Aganits 4, Randazzo 8, Mazzone 3. DNP Franceschini, Lensi, Daldello. Coach. Montagnani.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 12, Fromm 11, De Cecco 1, Giovi (L), Barone, Beretta 6, Vujevic 2, Atanasijevic 16, Sunder 2, Maruotti 1. DNP Paolucci, Tzioumakas, Fanuli. Coach. Grbic.

A win with authority from Perugia in the derby. Brilliant atmosphere in the first sold-out game of the season in Sansepolcro. Montagnani’s men were without Maric. MVP: Simone Buti (Sir Safety Perugia)

Antonio Corvetta (Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “We’ve really been struggling of late, we have a good start and then we get stuck at the first barrier we have to face. We’ve had a run of negative results and that doesn’t help our confidence”.

Thomas Beretta (Sir Safety Perugia): “We made up for the poor performance against Monza. That was the first time in about two months we could train all together and the work has paid off. Everything worked to perfection today and we obtained an important result in a derby the fans really wanted to win”.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (19-25, 24-26, 18-25)

VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 3, Gotsev 13, Tiberti, Galliani 8, Padura Diaz 13, De Pandis (L), Jovovic 1, Botto 1, Bonetti 4. DNP Procopio, Vigil Gonzalez, Wang, Bonola. Coach. Vacondio.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 13, Birarelli 7, Zygadlo 1, Nemec 16, Giannelli, Lanza 12, Solé 7, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi, Burgsthaler 1. DNP Nelli, Thei, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev.

In front of nearly 2000 fans, Monza confirmed the good level seen of late, though that was not enough to prevent Trento from running away with a straight set victory. Monza will try to obtain their first win of the season on the road on Monday in Padova in the last round to the halfway point of the regular season. MVP:  Martin Nemec

Oreste Vacondio (Coach Vero Volley Monza): “I think we have played a good game against a top class opponent. But we made a couple of mistakes too many, and against such a team you always get punished. In the first set, the game was all to play for psychologically. In the tight second, we proved we were in the fight. If we had made less mistakes, we could have done better. We’re improving, and that’s the most important thing”.

Radostin Stoytchev (Coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “Our job after the good game against Modena was to keep focused.  Monza was coming off a good performance against Perugia, our mission was to keep them at a safe distance of 3-4 points. We managed that in the first and third set. In the second we got ourselves in trouble on our own. But in the end, we regained control and took the three point”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 3-2 (37-39, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 15-12) – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 13, Sket 23, Del Vecchio 11, Spirito, Romiti (L), Bossi 7, Blagojevic 2, Hierrezuelo 6, Despaigne Jurquin, Torres 31. DNP Piscopo. Coach. Di Pinto.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Henno (L), Parodi 21, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 12, Kovar 1, Sabbi 16, Monopoli, Shumov, Kurek 18, Baranowicz 5, Podrascanin 11. DNP Vitelli, Bonacic. Coach. Giuliani.

Molfetta had the better of Treia in a thriller. The hosts had the perfect game, very accurate in every fundamental and focused on containing the spikes of former Molfetta star Sabbi. MVP: captain Del Vecchio: he had 11 points and 67% in reception. He shined with spectacular digs at important moments of the game.

Vincenzo di Pinto (coach Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “Credit to the club, they did everything possible to help even when nothing was coming easy for us. I want to thank the boys for this superb game, especially Torres who settled in very quickly and was the answer in various tricky situations. We did a good job of taking the second after wasting two set points in the first. We went beyond what was expected of us this week. That was a sport marathon. I can only congratulate everyone”.

Treia was not available for post-game interviews.

Gianrio Falivene (President Top Volley Latina): “It went as we expected on the eve of the game. After a difficult year like last season, we got ourselves back on track. And I think we can do even better in the second half of season, we have margin for improvement”.

Valerio Baldovin (Coach Tonazzo Padova): “In the first set, Latina played so well that they prevented us to get in the game. Then, we managed to sort a few things out and give them a game”.
