Modena is back in a league final after 12 years. And they’re back in the top competition of European volleyball. Their last appearance was in 2003, when they reached the final, lost against Lokomotiv Belgorod.

Modena had the better of Latina in three sets in Frosinone but it’s been hard work all the way. All three sets were tight, and even when they were seven down in the third, Latina gave it a fight to close the gap and try to get back in the game. This remains a superb season for Latina and they left the court among the applause of their fans. As for Modena, Sasha Starovic received his MVP award of the quarter-finals before the game, while the MVP of the game was Bruno.

Pieter Verhees (Parmareggio Modena): “Latina is a team that plays good volleyball and that was the case yet again today. We won 3-0, everything went perfectly. Now we’ll have a go at the final, it doesn’t matter who we meet, we just have to focus on ourselves”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Top Volley Latina): “We tried our best until the end, but unlike the game in Modena, their level of play never diminished. We showed our character in the third but congratulations to them”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 3-1 (25-22, 28-26, 12-25, 25-18) – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 7, Fromm 14, Paolucci 1, De Cecco 3, Giovi (L), Barone 6, Tzioumakas, Beretta, Vujevic 5, Atanasijevic 27, Sunder 1, Maruotti 1. DNP Fanuli. Coach. Grbic.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 20, Birarelli 4, Zygadlo 2, Nemec 5, Giannelli 1, Lanza 11, Solé 8, Colaci (L), Djuric 13, Fedrizzi, Burgsthaler. DNP Nelli, Thei. Coach. Stoytchev.

Both teams went all out in this pressure game. Trentino had the first strike in game 1 and Perugia knew they played for their lives. In this game worth a whole season, they had the better start (11-6). They kept an advantage throughout. Trento tried a come-back with a run of serves from Kaziyski (3 aces) but Perugia took the first set. The second was tighter, Vujevic making it 21 all. A thrilling end led to a winning spike from Atanasijevic. Top scorer of the first game, Nemec was out, and in came Djuric. The substitution together with a few mistake from the hosts led Trento on their way to a cruising third set win. But Perugia got back on their feet in the fourth (12-8). They increased the gap constantly and it was yet again the MVP Atanasijevic who sent everyone to a deciding game 3.

Nikola Grbic (coach Sir Safety Perugia): “That’s the way we had to play. That was a crucial win, not only to stay alive in the series, but also to show what we were capable of and that winning against Trento is possible”.

Mitar Djuric (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We knew how hard it was to play here, in this type of arena with such an atmosphere. We could have done better, we lost but now we’re tied. We’ll just play for it all back at home and I am certain we will win it”.
