Cucine Lube Civitanova is still dominating the season, a clear win on tonight on Ravenna (25-15, 25-16, 26-24). With this win Lube almost secured its leadership in the regular season standings.
Since 11th december Gianlorenzo Blengini’s team is running a fantastic streak of 15 wins in a row, including Unipolsai Superleague, Del Monte Italian Cup and Champions League, and totally undefeated on the home turf at Eurosuole Forum, with 14 consecutive wins.
With four games left in the regular season, Lube has 6 points of advantage on Diate Trentino, and with a win next sunday at home versus Trento, Civitanova will secure the first place in regular season.
Versus Ravenna it was more or lesse easy for Lube to keep at distance Ravenna, in first set the home team dominated, by winning 25-15 thanks to some great performances in all the fundamentals, keeping Ravenna at 27% in reception.
In the second it was a twin way, a 25-16 win with a total domination down the net (in the end Lube will have 14 total blocks), but in the third Bunge fought back, profiting of a little mental rest of Civitanova. With Antonio Corvetta and Alberto Casadei on court, Ravenna grabbed the tie at 20. Blengini put on court the starters, and Lube won the set 26-24 with a Christenson blocks on Van Garderen.
MVP Osmany Juantorena, 13 points, 63% in attack, 53% in reception and 2 blocks.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “Our priority was to grab the win, continuing our streak, a streak which is continuing thanks to the job we do every week in practice, sometimes taking care of some players’ physical troubles. Mission accomplished, now we have to think to sunday’s game versus Trento”.
Fabio Soli (Bunge Ravenna): “We had a great approach to the game, I’m satisfied with this. Obviously versus a powerhouse like Lube it’s not easy to play, especially when we are forced to bench the starter setter after a bunch of plays”.

22nd round of UnipolSai Superleague saw a 3-0 loss for Exprivia Molfetta versus Sir Safety Conad Perugia.
Lorenzo Bernardi’s team was too much for the team of Coach Gulinelli, despite the great fans in the sold out PalaPoli.
Before the match Giulio Sabbi was awarded with the title of Unipolsai Superleague MVP for january, Sabbi who was really in trouble versus Perugia, with only 10 points with 40% in attack.
Perugia showed as usuale some great performances in attack and in the fundamental of serve (8 aces for Block Devils, on the other hand 11 mistakes for Exprivia in this fundamental).
The MVP of the game was Ivan Zaytsev with 13 points and 56% in attack, well supported by Alexander Atanasijevic, top scorer of the game with 15 points.
It was a good start for Molfetta, in front 5-1 early in the first set, but well soon Perugia came back with authority with Atanasijevic, taking the lead on 11-10 and winning the first set 25-20.
Early in the second it was a balanced set, but starting from 15-12 in favour of Perugia, Molfetta got a big slump, losing the set 25-16.
In the third the attack of Perugia stepped up once again, taking a big lead on 18-9, and with the mistake in the fundamental of serve of Giulio Sabbi, Perugia won sete and match 25-17.

Flavio Gulinelli (Exprivia Molfetta): “They are a great team, they had a terrific rhythm in serve, they put us in trouble in reception, putting us under a bad pressure. We should keep their rhythm in serve, to stay at their level, but we struggled alot in this fundamental, giving them an easy opportunity to win”.
Ivan Zaytsev (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “Molfetta has a great audience, it has been important for us to win this game after the bad loss versus Lube. We forced our serve all game long, putting them in trouble, and this was the key fundamental for us to win”.

No way for the opponents, at PalaTrento. Diatec Trentino once again confirm its strength on its turf, collecting the 13th win in a row in this season. The Adige’s derby versus Calzedonia Verona, a team in great shape who was running a six wins streak, saw the win of Angelo Lorenzetti’s team, a 3-0 which did not completely say how was the game in reality. In fact it was a very balanced game, for at least two sets, it was a big battle, it was a game always on the edge, as the first set’s score says, 35-33. This was the first loss for Nikola Grbic on Verona’s bench, after six wins in a row. The bigger problem for Verona was the troubles of Uros Kovacevic and Mitar Djuric in attack, usually some sentences in the previous six games under Grbic. They hasd some troubles down the net, without finding continuity and having troubles to put the ball on the ground.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Diatec Trentino): “It was an important win, after a big battle on the court, witnessed by alot of big and long plays. With this win we can face the challenge versus Lube next sunday with a little bit of calm. We won, but sometimes we showed some trouble in closing the plays, and in some situations we should have more determination and toughness”.
Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona): “I’m disappointed for this loss, in first set we were playing very well, and for some episodes we lost it. In this type of games, you have to make only few mistakes, wins who did not commit mistakes in the key moments. We lost clearly the second set, but in the third we fought back, but they were good in finalize all the chances they had”.

After 11 losses in a row, finally Kioene Padova  back to win in the game versus Revivre Milano, another team who had some troubles in this season. Padova was more tough and practic in the crunch time of the game, a good team performance, with Stephen Maar in great shape, MVP of the game with 24 points.
The first set was a big battle, very balanced until the end, with Kioene who grabbed the win on 32-30.
In the second the protagonist of the first set Giannotti (21 points in the end for him) continued to hammer, but Revivre fought back, taking the lead on 23-18. A little come back for Padova until 22-23, but the set was for Milano on 25-22, grabbing the tie in the game.
A good job down the net and a couple of fundamental blocks for Padova gave the win to Bianconeri in the third set, won 25-19 by Kioene.
In fourth set a great turn in the fundamental of Serve of Milan gave an important break to Padova, who controlled the game until the end, winning the set 25-20 and finally winning a game after 11 consecurtive losses.

Valerio Baldovin (Kioene Padova): “It wasn’t a beautiful game, technically speaking, but I saw the determination of my players in the key moments, and that’s what I want to see. This is an important win, and now we need to focus on next home game, next sunday versus Top Volley Latina.
Luca Monti (Revivre Milano): “We missed quality in earning the breaks. They had good performances by Maar and Balaso, and this made the difference. The tournament is not finished. We will have nextsunday another ket match versus Sora, we need to make treasure of our mistakes here in Padova to finish the regular season in the best way possible”.

Top Volley Latina won 3-1 the derby at PalaGlobo “Luca Polsinelli” on BioSì Indexa Sora. Both teams needed a win to approach the playoff zone, and Latine accomplished this mission. The MVP of the game was veteran opposite Alessandro Fei, who reach in this game a valuable target as 9000 points in Serie A.
It was a good game by italian national team setter Daniele Sottile, who drove Latina to a good confidence especially in side outs. First set for Latina was a 25-22, in the second the score was clear, for Top Volley, 25-18 and a 2-0 lead in the count of the sets.
In third Sora fought back, taking Latina to the extra points, by winning 29-27 with a good performance of Miskevich.
In the fourth it was once again a great performance of Daniele Bagnoli’s team, who won very easily set and match 25-13. Another victory for Daniele on brother Bruno.
Bruno Bagnoli (BioSì Indexa Sora): “Latina deserved this win, they were great in side out, while our was poor. Some regrets in first set, where we were good in attack, but not able to put on the ground enough breaks to take home the set. Sottile was great for them, we hope to recover the injured players to have the complete roster for next games”.
Daniele Bagnoli (Top Volley Latina): “I’m happy for this result. We tried to put on the gournd some players from the bench, practicing some new rotations, and those players gave a fundamental effort in this win. This win is a good step, I’m happy”.

Gi Group Monza – Azimut Modena 2-3 (25-23, 13-25, 25-22, 26-28, 10-15) – Gi Group Monza: Jovovic 3, Botto 6, Beretta 5, Vissotto Neves 14, Fromm 24, Verhees 11, Brunetti (L), Rizzo (L), Galliani 0, Hirsch 8, Daldello 0, Dzavoronok 0, Raic 0. DNP Terpin. Coach Falasca. NOTES – sets: 31′, 23′, 30′, 35′, 14′; tot: 133′. Attendence: 3915. MVP: Luca Vettori.

Gi Group Team Monza lost a big chance to defeat the defending champs Azimut Modena on the home turf, in front of a sell out crow in this great night of volleyball. Only one point earned by Miguel Àngel Falasca’s team, important anyway for the situation in the standings, but the feeling of a chance missed remains, for Monza.
Gi Group dominated first and third sets with a great performance of Christian Fromm and Pieter Verhees (former player of Modena), and with a good impact on the game for Hirsch (in place of Vissotto), on the other hand Modena dominated in second set and was consistent in the key set of the game, the fourth, won by the Canarini 28-26, who silenced the screams of the fans, who were almost exploding imaging a win of the game in fourth. Since that moment, the body language of Monza was not so good, and the major experience of Modena in this crunch time gave to the team of Tubertini the strength to win the tie break 15-10, concluding the game with a freeball put on the ground by Matteo Piano.

Pieter Verhees (Gi Group Team Monza): “We were so near to the win, it would be so important for us, for the standings and for the confidence, and now we are here speaking about a tie break loss. We made too many mistakes in fourth, and this killed us. We lost enthusiasm. We have some regrets, but we don’t have time for this. We will have another game on sunday, we should keep the focus on this nex game”.
Lorenzo Tubertini (allenatore Azimut Modena): “We won a difficoult game versus a team who played some great volleyball. We were a big unit, as a group as a team, we need to have continuity to our good volleyball. It’s an honour for me to be coach of this great team”.
