Cucine Lube Civitanova won Game 1 of semifinals, but after a tough and great game versus defending champs Azimut Modena. Still undefeated at Eurosuole Forum, Lube won at tie break trailing from 1-2 in the count of the sets. In first set Lube took an early lead, 14-9 in the middle of the set and 19-15 approaching the crunch time of the set, winning the first set with a great spike of Osmany Juantorena 25-22. Second set started in the best way for Modena with a great turn in the fundamental of serve by Kevin Le Roux first, and then with some other good serves by Dragan Travica and Nemanja Petric. Civitanova fought back, keeping the set on the edge, but Azimut is strong down the net and won the set 25-22, tying the game. In third Azimut Modena took an important lead in the middle, 15-12 and then 18-13. Gianlorenzo Blengini put on court Denys Kaliberda in place of Jiri Kovar and Enrico Cester in place of captain Dragan Stankovic, but the set is for Modena, 25-20. A good start for the defending champs in the fourth, 5-3, but Lube fought back thanks to Cester, taking an important lead on 14-7. Fourth set is for the home team 25-19, in the madhouse of Eurosuole Forum, tie break in this exciting Game 1. In the fifth act of this game Lube found great performances by Davide Candellaro and Cester, who put on the ground the 11-7 ace, and the game is for Lube 15-11 at the tie break. Game 2 in Modena next sunday at 18.

Jenia Grebennikov (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “We knew it would be a difficoult series, and on today we had the prove of this. It was fundamental for us to take home this Game 1, it was tough and hard, Modena served very well all game long. Will be a long long series, but before think to Game 2, we will have to focus on Champions League next wednesday”.

Diatec Trentino stayed perfect at PalaTrento after Unipolsai Superleague Semifinals Game 1 versus Sir Safety Conad Perugia. Angelo Lorenzetti’s team grabbed the lead in the series in front of PalaTrento sell out crowd, staying calm and focused in the key moments of the sets. The first set was dominated by Perugia thanks to a gret performance in the fundamental of serve, won 25-16 by Lorenzo Bernardi’s team. After those first set, Trento fought back with Filippo Lanza and Tine Urnaut who stepped up, together with a great performance down the net by belgian middle blocker Van de Voorde, winning the second 25-22 and at the extras 26-24. In fourth Perugia tried to fought back but once again Tine Urnaut puton the ground some fundamental balls, so also the fourth was for the home team 25-22. Perugia had a good performance by Ivan Zaytsev, 16 points for the italian national team opposite, but suffered the bad percentages in attack of Alexander Atanasijevic. Next saturday at 18 Game 2 at PalaEvangelisti in Perugia.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Diatec Trentino): “The team was great, they played a great game, staying focused in the bad moments of the game, stepping up and do what they are able to do. This is an important win but I believ that to go over Perugia we have to improve some aspects of our game. We have to grow up in the serve”.

Lorenzo Bernardi (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We played an high level first set, being good also in the other three sets, but have lost an opportunity to take home this road win. Trent is a great team, someone said we are stronger then them, but they showed on tonight that this isn’t true”.

BioSì Indexa Sora still on track in the series, tying at 1 the Eighth Final versus Kioene Padova, after the 3-2 tie break win at PalaGlobo “Luca Polsinelli”. Maurizio Colucci’s tea, down 2-1 inthe count of the sets, fought bac by winning fourth set at the extras 26-24, and the tie break 15-11. Next wednesday Game 3 in Padova a no tomorrow game. Best player of the game was the Unipolsai Superleague MVP of february Radzivon Miskevich, confirming his great shape in this part of the season. Thanks to his 27 points, Sora tied the series, having the chance to advance to quarterfinals in Padova next wednesday. The best scorer for Padova was, as usual, Maar, with 20 points.

Emma Villas Siena lost clearly in Spoleto versus Monini, but staying in second place, with Spoleto in third place. Ceramica Globo Civita Castellana won 3-1 on the home turf versus Kemas Lamipel Santa Croce, clincing the fifth place in the standings, smashing the playoff dreams of Lupi Santa Croce.
