The press conference to present the Final Four of the Del Monte® Coppa Italia was held today, Thursday 18 January 2024. At the Sala degli Anziani of the Municipality of Bologna, some authorities highlighted the impact of the event to be held at the Unipol Arena in Bologna on 27 and 28 January on an area such as that of Bologna, while some new features were announced: all and three matches will be played with the “15 second serve” rule, and therefore, as already experienced in other events, there will be only this amount of time between one action and another, barring interruptions of another kind. The Final, scheduled for Sunday at 3.45pm, will be broadcast on Rai 2.
Below are some of the statements made during the conference.
Massimo Righi (President of the Serie A Volleyball League): “The Final Four Del Monte® Coppa Italia is an event requested by various cities in Italy, we are happy to return to Bologna thanks to the collaboration we have with the Region. Bologna is home to the Volleyball League, but above all it is geographically convenient for the fans of the participating teams. The presence of the many fans will have an important impact on the area, this is also the objective of volleyball. It will be a very high level edition, we can say that there is no favourite, the level of our championship is very high and everyone can beat everyone. The presence of international athletes, such as the two Japanese athletes present in two of the four semi-finalists, increases attention on the product of our volleyball. In Bologna we expect a show on the pitch but also in the stands, the presale is going very well, we are confident of having a full Unipol Arena. We announce that the Final will be live on Rai 2, which is by no means a given, given that it is a channel that is experiencing great transformations and repositioning, and it is a source of pride to continue to have our matches on the generalist networks. The “15 seconds serve” rule will also return, which we sometimes use in events to avoid going too far over time: over five sets, with this rule, you can save up to half an hour on the overall duration. We have already used it in the past, but it is also used in international events, the players are getting used to it.”
Roberta Li Calzi (Assessora allo Sport e al Bilancio del Comune di Bologna): “È un grande orgoglio per Bologna: il 2024 parte col botto. Avremo una serie di eventi nazionali e internazionali in questo anno. Questo sarà importante dato che la pallavolo è sentita a Bologna, abbiamo due squadre, una maschile e una femminile che puntano in alto. Nella Final Four potremo godere di uno spettacolo sportivo di altissimo livello, l’invito è di partecipare numerosi, sarà una grande festa. Quest’anno ricorreranno poi i 40 anni della Coppa Italia vinta da Bologna nel 1984, un bel segnale per la città ed un modo per festeggiare, auspicandoci che le nostre squadre tornino ad arricchire in futuro il palmares delle vittorie”.
Giammaria Manghi (Capo della segreteria politica della Presidenza della Regione Emilia-Romagna): “Questo è un grande evento che si ripete all’interno di un accordo triennale che porterà in questa Regione la grande pallavolo di ogni tipo. Questo sviluppo, in questo caso con Lega Pallavolo Serie A, ci dà la possibilità di portare su Bologna un grande evento di caratura nazionale e internazionale, di grande portata e attrattività. La pallavolo è uno tra gli sport che oggi sta sicuramente attirando tante attenzioni su di sé”.
Silvano Brusori (Presidente Comitato Regionale Fipav Emilia-Romagna): “Grazie per l’invito e per la collaborazione che portiamo avanti con Lega Pallavolo da anni per gli eventi nel nostro territorio dove gli eventi, sostenuti da tempo dalla nostra Regione, sono al centro dell’attenzione sportiva. In Emilia-Romagna gli eventi sportivi sono legati ad appuntamenti come questi ma anche ad altri legati alla pallavolo giovanile, beach volley e sitting volley. Per noi avere tanti eventi di questo calibro è una promozione molto importante. Dovremo fare a meno di squadre della nostra regione in questa Final Four, ma è la legge dello sport, godremo di un grande spettacolo. Devo ringraziare tutti coloro che contribuiranno per la buona riuscita di questo evento ed in particolare ai tanti volontari che ogni volta rispondono presente”.
