Do you see this year as a missed opportunity or as the feat from sixth place to the Scudetto Final?
Beppe Cormio: “Let’s say I wasn’t among those who expected more, but we missed some opportunities. These can be summed up in our failure to make the Coppa Italia Final Four, the poor performance in the Supercoppa Final Four, and the two “unplayed” matches against Zawiercie. Matches that could have at least earned us a place in the Champions League Final Four. On the other hand, clearly, our exploits at the end of the season stand out, with the disappointment of Games 2 and 3, which certainly could have seen us lead 2-0. That seemed the most logical outcome based on what we saw on the pitch. Instead, those games ultimately saw us succumb.
Was the gap between Lube and Sir technical or mental?
“We actually lacked what was our hallmark when we had experienced champions. We paid for our lack of experience, charisma, and mental stability in the heat of the match. From a technical standpoint, ours and theirs are two different expressions of volleyball. I believe we created some very interesting ideas and exchanges, which I’ve summarized in a summary. I must say we should be proud of having been able to put on such a powerful show, worthy of the final, to nearly 15,000 people in three matches. We’re coming out of this with our heads held high. With a little more experience and a little more confidence in our own abilities, we’ll be even more competitive. I also remember that when we began the complete overhaul of this team, we gave ourselves three years to understand the margins and bring in some top players to get back to winning ways. Next year will be the third, and I hope we can also shorten the timeframe. However, I believe that our program, if evaluated not only by the results achieved in the first season but also by the logic with which it was built, has been respected so far. The serenity and smile that Lube’s ownership has shown during this period makes me proud and very pleased.
Will the fans see a great Lube in the coming years?
“I believe our fans are mature; in fact, it’s not just a thought; I support it and would defend this thesis to anyone. They are fully mature enough to appreciate the effort the club and the players make to achieve a goal. They don’t just appreciate the achievement of a goal, but the journey. That is, finalizing an idea and carrying it forward, always being there, playing in final after final, being protagonists, managing to win the hearts of the supporters.
