Trentino makes it 20 against and beat the record of Modena 89/90. The other big guns win too, Cuneo (tie-break vs Vibo), Macerata, Treviso and Modena.  Castellana Grotte rout Monza.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – M. ROMA VOLLEY 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 15, Birarelli 6, Juantorena 11, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Sala 14, Bratoev, Sokolov 13, Colaci (L), Stokr 8, Bari (L). DNP Leonardi, Zygadlo, Garcia Pires Ribeiro. Coach. Stoytchev.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Zaytsev 11, Paolucci 2, Lebl 6, Uriarte 2, Tomatis 8, Cesarini (L), Corsini 1, Bencz 17, Yosifov 10. DNP Saraceni. Coach. Giani.

The Pala Trento remains an impossible gym for Roma, which lost there for the fourth time in as many games. Trento extends its record streak of 20, beating the Modena of 1989-90. Only Ravenna 90-91 stands ahead now with 25 wins.

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “In the first set, we objectively gave away too much to Roma and they took advantage. But that made us play better at 0-1 down. Every now and then, we are not perfect but that can happen, especially now that we are focusing our attention on other things. 20 in a row? We’re not thinking about records, right now the important thing is to focus on our game and improve as much as we can before the Champions League Final Four”.

Andrea Giani (M. Roma Volley): “Against a team like Trento, you have to be patient and be ready to take advantage of their little lapses that occur during the game. We managed that in the first set but not in the successive ones, they did not make many mistakes to be honest. In the fourth set, we got back in the game but that was not enough. Still, we played fine and we have to build on those good things if we want to qualify for the playoffs”.

SISLEY TREVISO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-21)

SISLEY TREVISO: Elgarten, Fei 16, Horstink 1, Kovar 13, Farina (L), Boninfante 1, De Togni 8, Maruotti 9, Bjelica 6. DNP Szabo, Papi, Bontje, Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Pajenk 6, Kosmina, Brunner 7, Meoni, Lasko 16, Smerilli (L), Lotman 8, Zingel 2, Cala Gerardo 11. DNP Mazzi, Herpe. Coach. Bagnoli.

The 21st derby between Treviso and Verona in front of over two thousand people went to the host in straight sets. MVP Kovar Jiri.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “We had a great game today, you don’t win that easily 3-0 against Verona, this is a team that made it difficult for everyone so far. The situation that occurred during the week should not influence us, we know we have many more targets ahead of us, the league and the European cup, we are professionals and we will play until the end. We managed to get rid of the mistakes we made in Monza, we handled better the end of sets”.

Jiri Kovar (MVP, Sisley Treviso): “We had to react after the 0-3 in Monza, we needed a wake-up call and we did it. The game was harder than the result might suggest, the first two sets were tight. We did a good job of sealing them in the clutch time, then in the third, we imposed our rhythm from the start and that made it easier”.

Bruno Bagnoli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Treviso had a better serve-reception combination, their aggressiveness on the serve made the difference. Shame we lost the first set when we played face to face, we did not manage to convert our opportunities when needed. We fought hard in the second set too, maybe If we had tied the game at 1-1, something would have been different. Meoni made some excellent plays, good contribution from Cala and Lasko and, despite the recent physical problems, we have to look ahead with confidence”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Savani 14, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio 4, Marchiani, Conte, Stankovic 10, Martino 9, Vadeleux 2, Van Walle, Omrcen 25, Podrascanin 8. DNP Lampariello, Cacchiarelli. Coach. Berruto.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 15, Kohut 6, Gitto 1, Sottile 6, Cortina, Pieri (L), Spairani 6, Vujevic 9, Starovic 13. DNP Popelka, Nonne, Labardi. Coach. Medei.

Macerata was not kind to Medei, a former assistant coach to Berruto in 2005. it was not all that easy, but Macerata was back on track against Latina and it proved to be a crucial victory given the tie-break of Vibo in Cuneo. Matteo Martino was back in the starting line up after a month out.

Mauro Berruto (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We are happy with the result, but good volleyball is a different thing so I’m not satisfied with the performance of the team tonight. We have to sort out a few things, in some fundamental positions. The league table? We should absolutely not look at what the others are doing, we have to focus exclusively on ourselves. We’re playing in Europe now, and we know our opponent is one of the best of the competition as it got to this stage, so we’ll need maximum concentration”.

Giampaolo Medei (Andreoli Latina): “Congratulations to the boys, they played with great character, they managed to make it tough for a top team like Macerata for long periods. Still, the truth is that we need points, and today we did not take any. We are not in a comfortable situation in the league, we cannot relax, we’ll have to get back on track as soon as possible”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-2 (25-17, 23-25, 26-28, 25-18, 20-18)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 15, Henno (L), Parodi 12, Galic, Fortunato 7, Montagna (L), Wijsmans 22, Carletti 5, Peda 2, Nikolov 30, Patriarca. DNP Grbic. Coach. Giuliani.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: . Coach. Di Pinto.

Both teams faced this encounter with injury worries. Cuneo took the first set but Vibo had the last word in two tight successive sets. The game went to the tie-break, which was decided by two Janis Peda aces. MVP: Vladimir Nikolov.

Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “A couple of plays made the difference, but we won’t complain about it. It was a good game for us. We did well to get back in it when we had the chance to do so. Hopefully, this is a starting point for us: we’re going through some physical problems, we have many injuries, we’re basically in six, but I think this performance will give us a boost”.

Francesco Fortunato (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We wanted the three points at all cost, it was important to use well our energy and take advantage of the rest we had been given. But things did not go as we wanted, shame because we started off well in the first set, we needed to maintain that rhythm, but instead we gave them the chance to get back in it and that’s what they did. Deservedly so. Anyway, it’s still two important points”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE 0-3 (17-25, 16-25, 19-25)

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Cetrullo 3, Rauwerdink 7, Pesenti, Krumins, Forni 1, Molteni 1, Buti 7, Rooney 9, Travica 2, Gavotto 9, Shumov 3, Exiga (L). DNP Zito. Coach. Monti.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Milushev 16, Rak 13, Cozzi 10, Patriarca, Falaschi 2, Dvoranen 9, Rodriguez 10, Cicola (L). DNP Pagano, Guglielmi, Guerra, Torre, Gallotta. Coach. Gulinelli.

Castellana Grotte is making miracles. After its tie-break victory over Macerata, Gulinelli’s team had the better of Monza too and this time it took all three points. Falaschi MVP.

Marco Falaschi (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We played with a lot of determination, we have put up a string of four good results, the one against Forli had been especially important. We got here aware of what we could do, we did our job, and Monza probably had a bad day too. We believed in our chances: now we have Piacenza at home, we’ll see how it goes, although I obviously hope it will go like today”.

Jeroen Rauwerdink (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We were a totally different team compared to Wednesday, we probably did not get on court with the needed determination and will to win. We have never been in it, we struggled in the dig-block phase. We all struggled I have to say, I really don’t know what happened compared to Wednesday”.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 27-25)

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA: Popp 14, Marra (L), Gonzalez 3, Ruiz 12, Perazzolo, Nilsson, Zlatanov 16, Holt 5, Tencati 7. DNP Piano, Massari, Boschi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO: Zhukouski 1, Van Den Dries 2, Schwarz 8, Dias 17, Giovi (L), Finazzi 3, Nikic 2, Braga, Maric 6, Cester 3, Steuerwald. DNP Bartoletti, Lo Bianco. Coach. Zanini.

Piacenza is back on the winning track and it did so with a 3-0 over San Giustino despite the strong resistance of the latter. Mvp: Benito Ruiz.

Bram Van Den Dries (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “We did not play well in the first set, we made too many mistakes. In the second, we got in the game, but we kept giving too many opportunities to Piacenza which made it easier for them to seal it. In the third, we could have won it but that’s how volleyball is, the result is never certain. In August, the coach told us that our priority should be to win 10 games, now we are stuck at 9, we wanted to reach this target today but couldn’t. We’ll have another go against Treviso. But we have to play better than this”.

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Morpho Piacenza): “First of all, we are happy with this clear victory, we had not won like that for a long time and that is good for the confidence. We have to keep our feet on the ground, though, we can’t think that the wins will come easy, on the contrary, we have to work even harder to maintain this rhythm”.
