Round 6. Vibo stops Macerata. Trento goes top.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO – M. ROMA VOLLEY 0-3 (18-25, 15-25, 20-25)

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 4, Rauwerdink 1, Mc Kibbin, Cozzi 5, Bartoletti, Conte 9, Finazzi, Petkovic, Tholse, Giovi (L), Sammelvuo 3, Urnaut 13. DNP Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 10, Paparoni (L), Zaytsev 15, Boninfante 2, Sabbi 15, Cisolla 8, Bjelica 5. DNP Passier, Paolucci, Maruotti, Bencz, Puliti, Corsano. Coach. Giani.

Roma came back from San Giustino’s Palakemon arena with a 3-0 win. The hosts did not offer much resistance to Giani’s team. Only in the final set did San Giustino show some fight following the competitive spirit of Sammelvuo, but that was not enough. MVP: Zaytsev.

Danilo Finazzi (Energy Resources San Giustino): “We obviously have weaknesses but we especially lack character and determination. We need more enthusiasm when we get on court, we can’t forget we also play to enjoy ourselves, and we’re not doing that right now. We won’t get any good result with this kind of attitude. We could also train ten hours a day, but the players have to find that spark inside themselves”.

Giulio Sabbi (M. Roma Volley): “We did not expect a game like that. San Giustino is coming off two defeats and we expected to meet a team ready to fight for their lives. Let’s enjoy this win”.

SISLEY BELLUNO – FIDIA PADOVA 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-22)

SISLEY BELLUNO: Szabò, Fei 20, Horstink 7, Farina (L), Kohut 6, De Togni 8, Suxho 6, Antonov, Ogurcak 6. DNP Abdelaziz, Dolfo, Curti, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 9, Gonzalez 3, Cricca, Koshikawa 2, Giannotti, Rosso 7, De Marchi 2, Simeonov 21, Semenzato 5, Suljagic 1, Zingaro (L). DNP Tiberti. Coach. Montagnani.

Belluno played with great fighting spirit and won the derby against Padova in front of around 1400 fans. MVP: Fei.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “We really played well, accurately in reception which allowed our setter to vary the plays and get positive response from the spikers. I am happy because Padova is a team that will trouble more than one this season while we got three nice points, which makes it clear we worked well in the gym this week. We are getting better and we can improve some more, but only playing as a team like we did tonight”.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “Shame we lost that first set, we wasted a lot of points. We could have taken the lead, but too many mistakes meant they took control. We also wasted a superb performance of Simeonov, we have to want it more to stay up. I tried to send some subs on, I wanted guys with fighting spirit, I tried but nothing changed”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-2 (25-27, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-12)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano 12, Hardy-dessources 8, Gitto 1, Sottile 2, Jarosz 10, De Pandis (L), Guemart, Troy 21, Roca Borrero 10, Cester 1, Fragkos 8. DNP Tailli, Galabinov. Coach. Prandi.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Ammerman, Marra (L), Kral, Sidibé, Papi 17, Zhekov 3, Nikolov 34, Massari 14, Holt 7, Tencati 11, Marretta, Penchev. DNP Zlatanov. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Two sets down, Latina fought back and eventually had the biggest part of the points at stake. In the tie-break, Latina immediately took the initiatives, they were 2-0 up, forcing Lorenzetti to take a timeout, but the hosts stayed in front 11-7 and 15-12.

Murphy Troy (Andreoli Latina): “This team has great character and we proved it at 2-0 down. It’s always difficult to play in this situation, but we have very good players who always want to win. My MVP is Rivera who scored three consecutive aces and got us back in the game”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “It’s true that we were not certain to get any points by coming here, but looking back now, we believed we could win it. We are dealing with a few physical problems. It’s tough when the opponent scores three consecutive aces, Rivera really hurt us”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 2-3 (25-23, 21-25, 25-14, 17-25, 10-15)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 6, Kosmina, Ter Horst 5, Calderan, Meoni 2, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 8, Zingel 11, Casarin, Kromm 15, Postiglioni, Gasparini 19. Coach. Bagnoli.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Ciabattini (L), Rossini (L), Zhukouski, Nikic 15, Forni 3, Molteni 1, Buti 13, Rooney 13, De Cecco 5, Gavotto 14, Shumov 2, Roumeliotis. Non entrati Aleksiev. Coach. Zanini.

In front of a 2650 crowd, Verona gathered a point against Monza. MVP: Simone Buti.

Marco Meoni (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We gathered an important point playing excellent volleyball, we have to work on our flaws but we are on the right track, credit to the work done every week. We’re looking for consistency but like I said, we are satisfied”.

Simone Buti (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We started off a bit tense, maybe a little tired, but then our dig-block got us back in it. Verona played good volleyball and they sent serves flying at 200 miles an hour”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca, Coscione 4, Cernic 14, Diaz 14, Rak 10, Klapwijk 21, Barone 9, Fanuli (L). DNP Lavia, Mignolo, Grassano, Bonetti, Nikolov. Coach. Blengini.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Pajenk 3, Savani 7, Exiga (L), Parodi 9, Stankovic 6, Kovar 4, Travica 3, Omrcen 17, Podrascanin 7. DNP Lampariello, Monopoli, Van Walle. Coach. Giuliani.

Vibo Valentia put its giant-killer cap on to beat Macerata with a top class performance that electrified the crowd.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “I think the team played very well and that’s the most important thing. We managed to control fine a team that usually makes it difficult for anyone with its powerful physical attributes and level of play. Tonight, they sent everyone on despite the fact they were in the game and in the end we snatched it. This is an extremely satisfying result”.

Albino Massaccesi (Vice president Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I did not think our team could play with such complacency. Credit to the opponent but we also had a very poor performance. I don’t think the midweek game had any influence, because the games are all the same. It’s obvious that when you start a game with an advantage of four points and then eventually lose it by as many points, there is something wrong. We really can’t afford to play like that, we totally lacked intensity”.
