Round 8. Trento, Cuneo, Macerata and Modena at the top. Roma and Padova won away vs Verona and Ravenna. Next round on Sunday.

ANDREOLI LATINA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 0-3 (18-25, 21-25, 22-25)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano 6, Hardy-dessources 8, Gitto 6, Sottile, Jarosz 3, De Pandis (L), Troy 4, Roca Borrero 12, Fragkos 8. DNP Guemart, Tailli, Galabinov, Cester. Coach. Prandi.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Pajenk 2, Exiga (L), Parodi 9, Stankovic 6, Kovar 10, Travica 3, Omrcen 16, Podrascanin 11. DNP Savani, Monopoli, Van Walle. Coach. Giuliani.

Macerata came away from the Pala Bianchini arena with three points by dominating from start to finish. Only in the third Latina managed to keep it tight.

Silvano Prandi (coach Andreoli Latina): “Now we have to find our rhythm. We need to improve immediately, especially mentally because in two days we won’t have time to improve our game and work on our mistakes”.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It was a difficult game for many reasons which you can imagine, but the boys have responded perfectly. I want to say a word on Travica who has played his best game for the club. Three important points because Latina proved they have a top quality roster, with good players on the bench too. Now we’ll face Monza and we’ll have two more training sessions before it”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – SISLEY BELLUNO 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Henno (L), Ngapeth 16, Fortunato 5, Wijsmans 18, Vissotto Neves, Grbic 2, Caceres 21, Patriarca 3, Rossi 7, Baranowicz 1. DNP Mastrangelo, Van Lankvelt, Pieri. Coach. Gulinelli.

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Fei 17, Horstink 12, Dolfo, Farina (L), Kohut 8, De Togni 6, Suxho 1, Antonov 2, Ogurcak 5. DNP Szabò, Curti, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

Cuneo got off to a perfect start against Belluno before losing the second. Gulinelli’s team immediately regained control and won it in four. MVP: José Miguel Caceres.

Flavio Gulinelli (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “After such a long break it was difficult to play, but everyone had the same problem. Fei only just got back for Belluno, and he was used in a different position than today. Except for spells in the second set, in which we got nervous too quickly, I am rather satisfied with the performance, both technically and tactically. Great game from Andrea Rossi, he really gave us a good hand today”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno):  “We could have done better. We have let Cuneo impose its game and couldn’t seem to get out of the difficult situations. Too many mistakes at times which could have been avoided, especially in the third set. We have to bounce back straight away, we have a tough period ahead of us”.

CMC RAVENNA – FIDIA PADOVA 2-3 (19-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 13-15)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 11, Bendandi, Corvetta, Sirri 8, Tabanelli (L), Verhanneman, Quiroga 5, Gallosti (L), Moro 24, Brunner 10, Gruszka 7, Roberts 4. DNP Leonardi. Coach. Babini.

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 21, Gonzalez 5, Cricca 6, Rosso 2, De Marchi 19, Simeonov 22, Semenzato 8, Suljagic, Zingaro (L). DNP Tiberti, Koshikawa, Giannotti. Coach. Montagnani.

A tie-break was needed to separate Ravenna and Padova. In the end, Montagnani’s team snatched two crucial points. MVP Stefano Moro had led Ravenna back from a 2-0 deficit.

Antonio Babini (coach CMC Ravenna): “Padova had two very convincing sets, than we did a good job of getting back in it, while the tie-break was decided on details. I prefer to focus on the things that went well on court and look ahead with confidence”.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We have played two great first sets because Ravenna did not serve hard and let us impose our game. Then Moro came on and changed the game. From that moment on, we struggled a lot, but in the end what matters is the victory. Angry? Not at all, if I got angry when we win, I would go crazy when we lose. It’s true that at times we lack confidence but today we must be satisfied with what is an important win for the team”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – M. ROMA VOLLEY 1-3 (23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 19-25)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 6, Kosmina, Ter Horst 1, Calderan, Meoni 2, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 5, Zingel 11, Casarin, Kromm 8, Postiglioni, Gasparini 18. Coach. Bagnoli.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 13, Passier 10, Paolucci, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 5, Zaytsev 20, Boninfante 1, Sabbi 22. DNP Bencz, Puliti, Corsano, Cisolla, Bjelica. Coach. Giani.

A big crowd (2857) pushed Verona on its come back in the gym after more than a month away but in the end it’s Roma that came out on top. MVP: Zaytsev with 5 aces, 2 blocks and 59% in attack.

Stefano Patriarca (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We all expected something more from this game. We had trained hard but unfortunately we did not put in practise all the work done in this month of training”.

Giulio Sabbi (M. Roma Volley): “These are three very important points even though we did not manage to play our best volleyball. This was maybe predictable given the lack of training. I personally did not feel tired legs, maybe the long trips in Japan were the most difficult to cope with”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (25-19, 24-26, 29-31, 22-25) –

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca, Coscione 3, Cernic 9, Diaz 22, Grassano 4, Rak 10, Klapwijk 28, Barone 4, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 2. DNP Lavia, Mignolo, Olli. Coach. Blengini.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 18, Birarelli 4, Della Lunga, Juantorena 18, Zygadlo 1, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Brinkman, Sokolov, Djuric 10, Colaci (L), Stokr 27, Bari (L), Burgsthaler 1. Coach. Stoytchev.

Trento did win it but it’s been far from a stroll in the park against Vibo, who made it a thrilling encounter and kept the suspense going for a long time. Klapwijk was outstanding with 28 points.

Matej Cernic (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We played with a good attitude, we played an excellent first set, Klapwijk scored a few aces and consequently things got easier. We fought hard in the second set, we played well, but some mistakes in reception decided the set. Besides, against such a strong team, you can’t afford to make too many mistakes”.

Raphael Vieira De Oliveira (Itas Diatec Trentino): “This was a very difficult game for us, we knew this was going to be tough but these three points will be very important at the end of the season. We’d like to congratulate Vibo which is having an excellent season”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-2 (25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 15-13)

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rossini (L), Nikic 18, Forni, Molteni, Buti 4, Rooney 21, De Cecco 4, Gavotto 17, Shumov 8, Roumeliotis 1. DNP Ciabattini, Kaszap, Mor. Coach. Zanini.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Ammerman 6, Marra (L), Kral 5, Papi 9, Zhekov 1, Nikolov 16, Massari 3, Zlatanov 20, Holt 5, Tencati 10. DNP Sidibé, Marretta, Penchev. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Too much of an easy start for Monza which took the first two sets against Piacenza convincingly. The guests woke up in the third and won both the third and fourth set. A game that seemed over after 50 minutes went to the tie-break but in the end Monza won it with Zlatanov as MVP of the game.

Milos Nikic (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We played well at the beginning of the game, we were excellent in the first set, unfortunately we faded in the third. The tired legs post Japan made themselves felt. But we were motivated and we managed to get the result in the end”.

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We had very little time to prepare this game, I only trained twice with the team. Various things did not work out today, and we have to work on them. In the end, we could have won it, we should have been more focused on certain plays, the final outcome could have been different”.

CASA MODENA – ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 18-25, 25-12, 15-13)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 13, Diachkov 2, Dennis 22, Carletti 1, Bellei, Esko 4, Martino 13, Casoli, Anderson 28, Piscopo 4. DNP Catellani, Yosifov. Coach. Bagnoli.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 9, Rauwerdink 13, Mc Kibbin 1, Cozzi, Bartoletti 12, Finazzi 9, Petkovic, Tholse 1, Giovi (L), Sammelvuo 7, Urnaut 5. DNP Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

Modena dominated the first set then lost its way before snatching it in the fifth in front of 3200 supporters.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “To be honest, at 18-13 in the second set, I thought the game was going our way. It’s difficult to explain what happened. We’ll definitely have to find out and understand the reasons to learn and handle better certain situations. In the end, given how things went, I’m glad we won it in the fifth”.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (coach Energy Resources San Giustino): “The boys did well to stick together in this moment. We managed to take advantage when Modena faded and at one point I thought we could win the game. It’s still an important point for us and now we’ll focus on Sunday’s crucial game against Verona”.
