Bitter come back to European action at home for Trentino, beaten in the Champions League by the Polish side of Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle at the tie break. Thanks to this win, the Polish go top but Stoytchev’s team can still hope to finish top as the two teams meet again in the first return game in eight days. The hosts struggled to impose their game as Kozle was outstanding in reception and dig, as well as effective in attack with Rouzier scoring 32 points at 51%. Things could have gone worse for the Italians, led two sets to nil before taking the third and fourth set. Despite a superb performance from Zygadlo, who stayed consistently on court from the second set, and Djuric, the come back could not be completed.

“We struggled to deal with the change of ball and you could see that in our reception – said coach Radostin Stoytchev – We are still far from our best, especially in the attack of position 4 and 1, which we need to win games of this level. Still, we did well to get back in it when the situation became really tricky at 2-0 down. We should have had the same attitude right from the start. Now we need a breakthrough in Poland to snatch the first place of the group”.

In the Cev Cup 8th of final first leg, Monza defeated Nafels away from home. The Italians had to adapt to a particular gym as many of their initial receptions and counter attacks ended on the very low ceilings of the Linth Arena.

“This was a difficult game because of the gym, which influenced our reception and counter – confirmed coach Zanini – The boys played focused and stayed humble, and they got the result we needed. They have a good team and played well, without the difficulty we had because they are used to play here. We did a good job to adapt”.
