Mission accomplished for Macerata which, after a shocking start, signed its comeback in the Champions League with a 3-1 win in Innsbruck. Thanks to these three points, the Italians go top of the group, one point above the Russians of Novosibirsk, which won 3-0 in Turkey against Fenerbahce. The first of the return games will be against the Austrians again next Tuesday.
Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube banca Marche Macerata): “Right now, this is what to expect from the Macerata team, which has not been able to train much and which therefore needs time to get it flowing again. Besides, a couple of players are not hundred percent either. We totally lacked personality in the first set, but then we improved, we fought hard and we obtained a deserved victory, which is worth an important first place of the group. We are travelling back home very happy. That’s the way the champions League goes, there are no easy games: we might be a better quality team than Innsbruck but this is a team that is used to winning in their country, and playing at home without any pressure, they became very dangerous. I’d like to thank our fans, not many team can boast the support we have on the road, and it’s been very important for us once again”.
