Serie A1 Sustenium

Round 10

It’s round 10 this weekend in the Serie A1, starting Saturday with Vibo Valentia versus Verona. Only one point separate the two teams in the table as they respectively stand in 9th and 10th position. An interesting match up but the game of the weekend has to be Trentino against Cuneo. The two teams meet again after the Super Cup played on November 1st. It is also first against second, the best two teams of recent years will play for the leadership once again.

Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia – Marmi Lanza Verona

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 21 (11-10 Verona).

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Verona is doing well, they have players of great experience, like Meoni, a player everybody knows, and Kromm, who proved he was an outstanding spiker. Their main weapon is the serve, we have to realise they will come here to win it. We will do our best to stop them with our game, our qualities and as much will to win as them”.

Mitja Gasparini (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We proved we had worked well during the month break, we have improved, we gained confidence and we could see a good understanding against San Giustino. We would have liked to be higher in the table, but it is very tight, many teams stands in just a  few points. Our position could be a lot different so we’ll keep working with determination to go higher. We have to face Vibo with the same fighting spirit and character shown against San Giustino, we believed in our ability, that’s exactly the way to go”.

Itas Diatec Trentino – Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 39 (20-19 Cuneo).

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We have to forget about Kedzierzyn-Kozle and look ahead. This is another important game against Cuneo, and winning it would be the best way to put the Zaksa loss behind us. Compared to last season, Cuneo made many changes but remained competitive, they have already proved it in this first part of season and in the Super Cup too. This will be a top level game”.

Leandro Vissotto (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We perfectly know that we’re facing a tough task, they are in great form, this is the best team there is right now, they’re playing top quality volleyball. But we’re ready for it, we have done well in recent games, especially in Poitiers in the Champions League. For me Sunday’s game will be like any others: we should not try to overdo it, there are plenty more games to come, starting with the Champions League, which remains our priority”.

Fidia Padova – Lube Banca Marche Macerata

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 33 (27-6 Macerata).

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We know we’ll be up against a team that, if it plays at its best, can take three sets easily. We know it but that should serve as a motivation for us, like in the game against Cuneo. This will be another battle, like every Sunday”.

Igor Omrcen (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We are travelling and playing without having the opportunity to train as we’d like to, but this is part and parcel of the top teams. We’ll not linger on certain difficulties. This will be a tough game in Padova, as difficult as the recent ones against Monza and Innsbruck have been. Padova is in form right now, they have been preparing to face us for a week, but considering our potential, which is undeniable, it will all depend on ourselves. The three points are needed to stay at the top”.

Casa Modena – Andreoli Latina

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 18 (11-7 Modena).

Daniele Bagnoli (Casa Modena): “Latina is the surprise team of this beginning of season, they have experienced players. Even if they are not physically impressive, they can play excellent volleyball. We are not at our best at this moment, our lack of consistency is due to the fact we have not been training well in recent weeks. This is a very important game for us, big points at stake. We want to win it, we’ll need quality and focus to get it”.

Candido Grande (Sport director Andreoli Latina): “This will be a very difficult game against one of the strongest teams in the league. We know our potential which we have shown against Vibo Valentia on Sunday. We’ll give it our best shot like we always do, we’ll try to make it as entertaining as possible for the knowledgeable fans that follow us. We’re aiming at staying in the top eight at the halfway point of the season”.

CMC Ravenna – M. Roma Volley

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (1 each).

Luca Casadio (President CMC Ravenna): “The win over Piacenza gave us a boost but we haven’t achieved anything yet. We’ll need consistency in the results. Roma is a very strong team, we’ll need all the support of our fans, hopefully the Pala De Andrè arena will be packed”.

Giulio Sabbi (M. Roma Volley): “This won’t be easy by any means. The victory over Piacenza proved that in volleyball anything can happen. One should never underestimate the opponent, one should never go on court thinking about the respective league positions. These are exactly the kind of games that can trick you. We have to stay focused in Ravenna and play our game, like we’ve done before playing Trento, winning five straight encounters. Our first target is the qualification for the Italian Cup. The fixture lists seems to go in our favour, with at least three games which we have the potential to win. It won’t be easy, though, but we should not make it harder for ourselves by making too many mistakes”.

Copra Elior Piacenza – Sisley Belluno

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 31 (16-15 Belluno).

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Elior Piacenza): “Sunday’s game is important both for Piacenza and Belluno as both are coming off defeats. This will maybe not be the brightest of games technically but there will be fighting spirit, intensity and emotion, a nice game to play. This is the kind of game that can salvage a season, help you to turn things around. We have to be focused but we should not try to overdo things if we don’t want to have another performance like the one against Ravenna”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno) “It will be nice to see Samuele Papi, a player that marked the history of Sisley Treviso and Italian volleyball. He is a great spiker. I have maximum respect for him, as a person, as well as for the player, who won just about everything for Treviso and the National team. He will surely want to give his best, not only because he will play against us but also because Piacenza desperately needs points right now. This is why we’re facing a difficult game, we’ll need to stay composed and clever. Could be a nervy game”.

Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza – Energy Resources San Giustino

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 18 (13-5 San Giustino).

Enrico Marchioni (Sport director Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “This will be a very tricky game, we have been travelling all over the place, and we had very little time to train and improve as a team. We have to be careful: San Giustino lost the last one at home but also won an important point away against Modena. We are happy with Conte’s debut, and we’re hoping to be able to have Rooney back”.

Andrea Sartoretti (Sport director Energy Resources San Giustino): “The players are pulling together, they working hard to reach our targets. On Sunday, We’re facing Monza which, with Conte’s arrival, further strengthened its roster. They have all the positions covered and they’re strong, they play home, they’re definitely favourite but we’ll try to play a good game”.

Serie A2 Sustenium

Round 15. Last round to the halfway point with the Italian Cup A2 at stake

The A2 is reaching the half way point of the season with this coming round. A very important game is ahead for five teams, which are fighting for the last three places in the Italian Cup A2. Two teams among CheBanca! Milano, Energy Resources Carilo Loreto, Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora, NGM Mobile Santa Croce and Carige Genova will stay out of it.

This round 15 will begin with Atripalda versus Sora. The hosts need points in what has been a troublesome first half of season, which led to only one home win. As for Sora, it will fight to stay in the top eight. Already sure to be in the cup, Molfetta entertains Loreto, seventh and hunting for the win to secure the participation in the cup. Corigliano plays host to Cantù who will try to get away from the bottom two. Currently ninth, Santa Croce needs the victory over Castellana Grotte to be able to defend the cup title won last season. As for Castellana, they are chasing the top spot, which is occupied by Segrate, The latter has yet to lose at home but they host an in-form Isernia team, which is on a three-game winning streak, the last one against Città di Castello. The latter want to redeem themselves following last week’s defeat as they host Milan. Radici’s team can aim for third or fourth place, and therefore have the possibility to play the cup quarter finals at home. Perugia is one that will do everything possible to stay in the top 4 as it travels to Reggio Emilia, which is last from bottom. Finally Genova will need a victory to make it into the top eight in the capital when they take on Club Italia.
