COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – CASA MODENA 2-3 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 18-25, 6-15)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Latelli (L), Marra (L), Papi 13, Fei 18, Simon 8, Zlatanov 17, Holt 11, Tencati, Maruotti, Vettori, De Cecco 4. DNP Tavana, Corvetta, Ogurcak. Coach. Monti.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 13, Deroo 20, Quesque 9, Celitans 21, Casadei, Vesely 5, Kovacevic, Baranowicz 3, Piscopo 1. DNP Catellani, Bevilacqua, Pinelli. Coach. Lorenzetti.

The derby fully met the expectations. Modena and Piacenza fought hard until the very last point for a place in the Final Four. Zlatanov and co, who had been missing in the cup in the past two years, were broken hearted after leading 2-0 and seemingly on route to Assago without much problem.

Luca Monti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “Papi did brilliantly in the first two sets, then faded in the following physically. Simon was struggling, we haven’t seen much of him during the whole game, he did not read the game very well and could not block at the net. We’re disappointed not to go to the Final Four, especially after the good start to the game we had. I would have liked to find the answer when we lost our way, I am very disappointed with myself not to have found solutions”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “We lost the first set mainly because of Papi. We were too tense too, then we understood we could play loose and with free minds”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23)

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Zaytsev 10, Parodi 10, Stankovic 8, Henno (L), Travica 6, Starovic 15, Podrascanin 8. DNP Lampariello, Pajenk, Monopoli, Randazzo, Kooy. Coach. Giuliani.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rauwerdink 1, Rossini (L), Gitto 6, Sottile 1, Patriarca 3, Verhees 2, Troy 17, Noda Blanco 8, Cisolla 5, Fragkos 2. DNP Jarosz, Prandi, Guemart. Coach. Prandi.

A game dominated from start to finish by the Italian champions of Macerata against a Latina team that made a lot of mistakes and had low percentages in attack. MVP: Starovic with 52% in attack and 15 points.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We have been organised tonight, and found it a little harder only at the end of the third. Latina has tried everything to make it hard for us with many substitutions. We’re satisfied, we really wanted to go to this Final Four, the situation is not perfect right now for us but the boys did a great job”.

Stefano Patriarca (Andreoli Latina): “We knew the first thing we needed against a top team like Macerata was to be able to hang on when things were tough, by being patient. We only managed that in the third set, and obviously that was not enough”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-0 (25-22, 33-31, 25-20)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Coscione 1, Cortellazzi, Kaliberda 8, Farina (L), Forni 7, Rocamora, Buti 8, Klapwijk 18, Barone, Urnaut 11. DNP Montesanti, Badawy, Presta. Coach. Blengini.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 7, Antonov 10, Ngapeth 11, De Pandis (L), Wijsmans 11, Kohut 6, Grbic 1, Della Lunga, Sokolov 6, Abdelaziz. DNP Marchisio, Galliani, Rossi. Coach. Piazza.

You could feel it was one of those big nights on the Vibo Valentia stands. The hosts and Cuneo made it a great game of volleyball. Pushed by its fans, Vibo managed to take two very tight first sets thanks to a near-perfect attack. It played at its best in the first and third set while it showed great abnegation and concentration in the second set to register a 33-31 win in come-back fashion. Netherlander Klapwijk was top scorer with 18 points (72%) and named MVP.

Roberto Piazza (Coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We knew it was going to be very difficult here in Vibo against a team that plays excellent volleyball. We did not manage to convert the counter attacks, especially in the second set, which is the one that made the difference today. Even in the first set we did not do well on the counter, something that Vibo excelled in as it converted all the most difficult points”.

Alessandro Farina (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Tonight we have really been brilliant. We started off strong as we knew we needed to be aggressive from the start while they were coming off a difficult period. Then we fought hard until the end with the help of this incredible crowd. We’ll go to Assago knowing we had a great game and that we’ll need the same concentration in our next one. Our next opponent is a tough one, but we’ll try to play like we did tonight”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17)

No surprises in the quarter-final putting face to face the league leaders against the 8th classified team. Trentino made it into its sixth semi-final in history with a 23rd victory in a row this season. MVP: Virarelli with 5 blocks and 5 aces.

Raphael (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We found it hard only in the third, as for the rest we played our usual volleyball and proved we deserved to go to the Final Four. We are motivated and ready to fight for the trophy but we know it won’t be easy. Today, there has been some difficulties but we have done well to get back on our feet when it was not going too well. We know retaining our title is possible”.

Andrea Giovi (Sir Safety Perugia): “We were not the favorites and all the pressure were on Trento’s shoulders. But they served hard from the start and made it difficult for us in reception. To be honest we struggled in just about every fundamental. We have been more organized in the third set, served better and won the set. It would have been a huge upset to win here but we knew it was going to be extremely complicated”.
