BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte-Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata 0-3 (21-25, 21-25, 13-25); Itas Diatec Trentino-Sir Safety Perugia 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10); CMC Ravenna-Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 22-25); Altotevere San Giustino-Copra Elior Piacenza 1-3 (16-25, 25-21, 12-25, 18-25); Casa Modena-Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21); Andreoli Latina-Marmi Lanza Verona 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 31, Birarelli 9, Juantorena, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Valsecchi 2, Uchikov 8, Lanza 11, Djuric 10, Colaci (L), Chrtiansky Jr, Bari (L), Burgsthaler 5. DNP Sintini. Coach. Stoytchev.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Alletti, Van Rekom, Van Harskamp 2, Petric 24, Giovi (L), Tomassetti 12, Schwarz 9, Tamburo 3, Vujevic 11, Semenzato 10. DNP Daldello, Edgar, Pochini. Coach. Kovac.

Eleven days after the cup quarter-final clash, Trentino made the double against Perugia, although it’s been more difficult the second time around (3-2). This is Trento’s 26th consecutive win, including their cup triumph. Important win for coach Stoytchev who knows he can count on his bench, as the cup winners were without Juantorena and Stokr. MVP: Kaziyski.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s been an extremely long game in which we had some difficulties, in our game, and due to our new line-up. But what matters in the end is that we won it. We showed character and that made the difference. But we have to be more ready to adapt to the game of our opponents when they go all out and make a lot of changes”.

Andrea Semenzato (Sir Safety Perugia): “We were very close to make the breakthrough, win in Trento and stop their winning streak. But more than being disappointed with the loss, we have to celebrate this point won, it’s never easy to do that in Trento. We did a good job to get back in the game twice in the second and fourth set. You could hardly ask anything more from the team”.

ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 1-3 (16-25, 25-21, 12-25, 18-25) ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO: Fiore 3, Van Den Dries 20, Mc Kibbin, Gradi, Cesarini (L), Bohme 4, Mattioli 1, Torre, De Togni 3, Maric 7, Cebulj 7. DNP Coali, Lo Bianco. Coach. Fenoglio.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Latelli (L), Marra (L), Corvetta, Papi 8, Fei 11, Ogurcak, Simon 12, Zlatanov 17, Holt 12, Maruotti, De Cecco 9. DNP Tencati, Vettori. Coach. Monti.

The year did not start well for San Giustino, defeated at home by Piacenza. Coach Fenoglio could finally count on the full squad as Cebulj was back.

Alessandro Fei (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We haven’t played one of our best games, we struggled to find consistency during the game. We’ll have to work on that in the next few month if we want to have our say in this league”.

Andrea Sartoretti (Sport director Altotevere San Giustino): “Losing against Piacenza can happen, they’re one of the top teams of this league. We made a few too many mistakes once again, and had some lapses in concentration. We lacked intensity today, accuracy too, and against teams like that you get punished. We have to build on the good things seen in the second set. I am glad to have Cebulj back. Even if he’s young, Klemen is an excellent player, he will really help us until the end of the season”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 0-3 (21-25, 21-25, 13-25)

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Elia 8, Paparoni (L), Falaschi 2, Dolfo 2, Ferreira 9, Sabbi 1, Ferreira 7, Yosifov 7, Casoli 3, Krumins. DNP Menzel, Ricciardello, Cester. Coach. Gulinelli.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Pajenk 9, Zaytsev 17, Parodi 7, Stankovic 4, Henno (L), Travica 1, Kooy 14. DNP Monopoli, Starovic, Tartaglione, Podrascanin. Coach. Giuliani.

Castellana Grotte could do very little against a Macerata team that did not give anything away. Castellana was without Cester and lost Sabbi through injury on the last point of the first set. MVP: Zaytsev.

Alessandro Paparoni (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “It’s obvious that Macerata is one of the best teams not only in Italy but in Europe, missing two players against them is not exactly ideal. These things happen but we probably should have done more given that we had nothing to lose. We have to improve in this aspect”.

Alberto Giuliani (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I have to say the atmosphere in this arena was great, with people supporting them as well as us. We wanted to begin well this tour de force which started today. The boys responded well with a good attitude and very few mistakes”.

CMC RAVENNA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 22-25)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 7, Owens 5, Zhukouski 2, Psarras, Sirri 2, Tabanelli (L), Zanuto 10, Moro 1, Bellei 8, Pelekoudas 6. DNP Mazzotti, Di Franco, Radunovic. Coach. Fresa.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Antonov 10, Ngapeth 10, De Pandis (L), Galliani, Wijsmans 13, Kohut 2, Grbic 2, Della Lunga, Sokolov 12, Abdelaziz 1, Rossi 1. DNP Marchisio. Coach. Piazza.

Cuneo logically won in Ravenna 3-0 but some offensive frailties and some inaccurate reception seen before the break remained. On the other hand, Ravenna played better than usual at the net as they had Tabanelli and Zhukouski back.

Roberto Piazza (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “The most important thing was to get a result, and we have also seen some good things. We still have a few problems to sort out, but we have the quality and will to work to overcome them”.

Mauro Fresa (coach Cmc Ravenna): “It was tight in the third set but we made some silly mistakes. Before that, there were too many mistakes in attack”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rauwerdink 20, Rossini (L), Gitto 6, Sottile 3, Jarosz 24, Patriarca, Verhees 9, Troy, Noda Blanco 6, Cisolla, Fragkos, Guemart. DNP Prandi. Coach. Prandi.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Ter Horst 18, Gotsev 14, Bolla 1, Pesaresi (L), Gavotto 15, Peacock, Viafara 9, Fedrizzi 9, De Marchi 1. DNP Zingel, Kosmina, Meoni, Centomo. Coach. Bagnoli.

Latina opened the new year with a victory over Verona that ended a negative run in the league. Verona was stronger at the net (20 blocks vs 10 for Latina) but the hosts imposed its serving (10 aces) and attack (47% vs 41%). MVP Jakub Jarosz

Jakub Jarosz (Andreoli Latina): “These games are very tough, because we had to put an end to a period in which we did not collect many points. We have played a lot, two games a week since the beginning of the season and we haven’t had much time to train and recover from some injuries. But now we’re back”.

Francesco De Marchi (Marmi Lanza Verona): “I am on my way back although I have not fully recovered. When we struggle we don’t have many options to turn things around. We still have too many injuries, we are never 12 in training. But there’s a long way to go and we can get back up the table. We have to play well in the important match-ups in order to get into the top ten and the playoffs”.
