Trento came back from Cuneo with a tie-break victory that send them 2-0 up in the series as they were given a 1-0 edge thanks to their better regular season position. This was a beautiful game, a thrilling battle that went to the wire and which needed the new technology of the Video Check in key moments. Kohut obtained a match point in the tie-break at 14-13 but Cuneo made a mistake in the next serve. Sokolov gave the host two more chances but they could not convert. Trento proved more clinical in its first opportunity.
Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s been a game with a lot of twist and turns. It was really hard, but we found a way through right at the death. We hanged in there till the end. But we can play better. Against a strong team like Cuneo, you have to try to stay close as much as you can”.
Massimiliano Giaccardi (Ass.coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It’s been an intense battle. We have been a bit naive in the fourth set after winning rather easily the third one. We have to prepare ourselves as well as possible for the next encounter, on Sunday in Trento”.
