On Saturday night, at the end of two hours and ten minutes of play, Vibo Valentia celebrated a deserved victory over the Italian champs of Trento as the game was broadcasted live on TV, radio and Internet. This is Trento’s second loss of the season (the first vs Macerata). You could see from the start Vibo was eager to interrupt its negative streak although it had to surrender 31-29 in the first set. When the guests dominated the second set to go 2-0 up, all thoughts were going towards a straight set victory, but instead the hosts fought back.
Mauro Gavotto (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “This really was a great performance, even if I could personally have done better, but that really doesn’t matter today. What matters is the win, at home, it’s fantastic to play with this crowd. This will give us a big boost”.
Emanuele Birarelli (Diatec Trentino): “We’re a bit disappointed, we were two sets ahead and losing like that is always frustrating. They never gave up, while our attitude in the third set was not good. They played better than we had done in the first two sets. We put our foot off the pedal, lost confidence, and that prevented us from playing good volleyball”.
