DIATEC TRENTINO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22)

DIATEC TRENTINO: Birarelli 5, Solé 8, Ferreira 6, Suxho 1, Lanza 8, Sokolov 24, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 2. DNP Sintini, Thei, De Paola, Nelli, Burgsthaler. Coach. Serniotti.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Le Roux, Papi 2, Fei 6, Kaliberda 7, Simon 11, Zlatanov, Tencati, Vettori 16, De Cecco 2. DNP Partenio, Smerilli, Husaj. Coach. Monti.

Seven months and three days after the league final game 5, it’s once again Trento on the winning end against Piacenza. Trento sent a totally unexpected line-up and that might have done the trick. Great fighting spirit and excellent level of play means they sealed it in straight sets and are making a claim again on second place. MVP: Sokolov: 57% in attack and 5 blocks.

Emanuele Birarelli (Diatec Trentino): “It’s been a great evening: superb crowd and fantastic victory against a team that built a roster to win it all. This is a good step forward, this will give us belief in our ability. This is the way to go, we’re on the right track. The come-back in the third set is the symbol of what we managed to do today as a team”.

Luca Monti (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We did not play at the level of our latest games, we struggled in reception with a line-up who was meant to do particularly well in that area with Papi and Kaliberda. Credit to Trento for serving so well, their efficiency in that area allowed them to get some blocks and make us lose confidence”.

CASA MODENA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 0-3 (22-25, 20-25, 18-25)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 3, Sket 5, Deroo 4, Quesque 9, Kampa 1, Bartman 13, Beretta 6, Bossi, Hendriks, Kovacevic 2. DNP Donadio, Krumins. Coach. Lorenzetti.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 4, Pesaresi (L), Ter Horst 7, Gasparini 23, White 8, Boninfante 2, Bellei 1, Anzani 13. DNP Blasi, Coali, Gabriele, Centomo, Gonzalez. Coach. Giani.

Verona came back from Modena will all three points, extremely valuable for the Italian cup qualification. The guests have dominated in each of the three sets and the stats confirm it: 48% vs 36% in attack, 8 aces vs 4, 11 blocks vs 7. MVP: Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona)

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “After four points taken away from home, I did not expect such a performance. We lost our way at the first barrier. We knew how good was Verona, but we struggled, we found it hard on float serve too”.

Andrea Giani (Coach Calzedonia Verona): “We wanted to play one point at a time and got off to a strong start. We have worked extremely well in recent weeks and this has paid off. The boys have really been great on the serve and in the block-dig area”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – CMC RAVENNA 0-3 (25-27, 23-25, 21-25)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Piscopo 6, Mazzone 4, Del Vecchio, Cesarini (L), De Marchi 4, Sabbi 19, Zanuto 16, Casoli 3, Saitta 1. DNP Izzo, Diamantini, Porcelli, Blagojevic. Coach. Cichello.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 5, Toniutti 3, Tillie 13, Koumentakis 9, Patriarca 1, Klapwijk 3, Cester 9, Bari (L), Cebulj 12. DNP Kauliakamoa Jr, Cricca, Jeliazkov, Scarpi. Coach. Bonitta.

In its first of two consecutive home games Molfetta was swept by Verona.

MVP: Kevin Tillie (CMC Ravenna).

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Ravenna): “We knew the atmosphere was tough to handle here and we faced the game with fighting spirit and determination. In the first set, we started off a bit tense, but then we played brilliantly and obtained a superb away win”.

Giulio Sabbi (Exprivia Molfetta): “This was not a good game even if Ravenna had gathered many less points than us until now. Our roster struggled in reception, we made a lot of mistakes. In this league, which is very tight, you cannot underestimate the opponent. We’ll redeem ourselves in Modena”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Henno (L), Zaytsev 16, Stankovic 10, Kovar 10, Kurek 11, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 6. DNP Paparoni, Vitelli, Martino, Monopoli, Giombini. Coach. Giuliani.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink 5, Antonov 2, Marchisio (L), Gonzalez, De Pandis (L), Casadei 3, Kohut 7, Alletti, De Togni 6, Coscione 1, Rouzier 9, Maruotti 8. Coach. Piazza.

Macerata made it a record nine wins in a row against Cuneo and stayed unbeaten. Thanks to Piacenza’s loss in Trento, Macerata now boasts a six-point advantage at the top and became winter champ with two games to spare. It’s basically been one-way traffic from start to finish with an outstanding Baranowicz, who guided his spikers to 59% in attack. The team also registered 12 aces. MVP: Stankovic.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We had a good game, we did a great job in certain fundamentals, playing with consistency. The serve was fine, but what I liked the most was the attitude in dig. This week ends very positively in terms of results, shame we have to deal with injuries. Parodi is out again, very bad news for us, while Martino is working his way back, hopefully he will soon be fit again. We’ll now focus on Wednesday’s game in Kazan, we’ll be up against a strong team, which is playing excellent volleyball. A positive result there would be something special, because we perfectly know how important it would be to finish first of the group”.

Roberto Piazza (Coach Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “You could see the difference on court between the two teams, Macerata did not miss a thing except for a couple of plays, while we are still a work in progress. We did ok in some areas, but then lost confidence and made mistakes, silly ones too. As I said, Macerata is a great team, they’re in a world of their own. I’m already thinking about the next game, which we’ll have to play without some of our starters”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-1 (32-30, 25-22, 20-25, 25-11)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 12, Paolucci 3, Petric 15, Della Corte 1, Giovi (L), Cupkovic, Della Lunga 1, Mitic 1, Vujevic 14, Atanasijevic 21, Semenzato 12. DNP Barone, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rossini (L), Gitto 8, Sottile 1, Michalovic 5, Skrimov 6, Verhees 8, Paris 1, Noda Blanco 14, Starovic 10, Fragkos 8. DNP De Rocco, Candellaro, Tailli. Coach. Santilli.

Great game in the Pala Evangelisti arena. A top level encounter that the hosts won in four sets. Atanasijevic and Petric combined for 36 points and led the way in the difficult monents. Paolucci, who came on at the halfway point of the second set was key too.

MVP: Andrea Semenzato

Nemanja Petric (Sir Safety Perugia): “We knew it was going to be difficult tonight, and that’s the way it’s been, except for the fourth set. We won all the long rallies, which in the end made the difference. These are three crucial points even if we still have to improve our game. We’re facing another tough game against Trento next Sunday, but hopefully we’ll do well in front of our fans”.

Matteo Paris (Andreoli Latina): “Unfortunately, that is who we are now. We build up good leads, like tonight in the second set, then all of a sudden there’s a black-out. We had a good reaction in the third set, but then we just didn’t compete in the fourth. I am sorry for the fans. What’s the problem? In our minds. It’s hard to explain how on earth can this team be bottom of the table”.
