First return games
The A2 reached the halfway point of the regular season on December 26. But the teams are already making their way back on court this Sunday. The second half of season promises to be exciting as four teams that are locked in three points at the top will fight for direct promotion in the A1. Many others will play for the best possible positions to get in the playoffs.
Coserplast Openet Matera – Caffè Aiello Corigliano. Matera moved up to second thanks to a three-point win in Castellana, while Corigliano took maximum points for the first time at the expense of Brolo. Young Borgogno shined with 14 points as well as the newcomer Williams with 18.
Vero Volley Monza – Itely Milano. Big derby between Monza, third after pushing the leaders to a tie-break, and Milan moved up to 6th thanks to 8 points taken in the last three games and its latest win over Cantù.
B-Chem Potenza Picena – Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora. Potenza Picena can’t seem to stop the bleeding. It conceded its sixth consecutive defeat and slipped to 8th. Fourth in the league, Sora was rested in the last round. They will try to prepare the cup final four with a good performance in this league encounter.
Sieco Service Ortona – Tonazzo Padova. Ortona was very close to make it into the A2 cup final four and will now try to focus on staying as close to the big guns as possible. The first hurdle is not easy: the leader Padova, who had the better of Monza at the tie-break in the last round.
Elettrosud Brolo – Cassa Rurale Cantù. Currently bottom, Brolo wants to get out of its crisis with a positive result against Cantù who’s coming off two derby lost against Monza and Milan. In the first meeting between the two teams, Cantù had won it 3-0.
