Perugia celebrates. The surprise team of the season does it again and qualifies for the league final, in which they will face Macerata. Bitter end for Piacenza whose unbeaten home record fell just before the final. The three previous encounters had needed a tie-break to be resolved but this time four sets were enough for Perugia. As always, Perugia was led by the exuberant Atanasijevic, who scored 23 points (3 aces), and MVP Petric who added 18 (4 blocks). Not much in the stats separating the two sides. The blocking might have been the only difference on the day, Piacenza collecting 4 while Perugia had 7.
Alessandro Fei (Copra Elior Piacenza): “It’s been a good semi-final series. First of all congratulations to Perugia. As far as we’re concerned, I am satisfied with the season we had, we had a good run in the Champions League and we won the Italian Cup. Perugia played very well, I feel like they played much better today than in the other games. We struggled to block them and that made things harder”.
Fabio Fanuli (Sir Safety Perugia): “In the league as well as in the cup, Piacenza had always been better than us. During the series, we stepped up a gear and when you manage to push the series and have a chance to play those games, every single play can make the difference”.
