Latina put its heart and soul in this encounter but that was not enough to overcome the challenge of the Italian champions and qualify for the semi-finals. It will now all be down to Wednesday’s game 3 back in Civitanova. Treia needed five sets to clinch it, and the three sets won were extremely tight, while Latina comfortably took the two others. Latina had to deal with physical worries, Van De Voorde had to sit alongside Semenzato in the stands, while Skrimov had to come out too during the game. MVP Sasha Starovic

Loris Manià (Top Volley Latina): “We were very close, we were right there, we lacked that little push in the tie-break. Now we have to start from scratch and we’ll just try again, we can’t be angry against ourselves with the way it went”.

Marko Podrascanin (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “The boys did a great job of not losing their confidence when we were trailing by ten. The pressure is always there before and during the playoff games, especially against teams like Latina”.

Game 3 in Perugia will be needed to decide this match-up. Verona had stunned Perugia away from home but now Grbic and co did the same as they were followed by 300 fans in Verona. The visitors proved extremely efficient in every fundamentals for two sets and a half, but Verona fought back in the third, setting up a fierce fourth set, which Perugia would eventually clinch 25-23. Setter De Cecco was outstanding, he was deservedly named MVP.

Mitja Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona): “We were close from a tie-break but could not fill the gap. We did well in the blocking, serving and on the counter to get back in the third set, these are things that had not worked in the previous two sets. Now we’ll focus on Game 3, we’ll go to Perugia and be aggressive to try get the victory”.

Alexandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Perugia): “We played a great game even if we did not manage to win in three sets. We have to focus immediately on game 3. We can’t even be one minute without thinking of the next game. This win does not mean anything if we don’t win the next one at home”.

A carbon copy of the game played seven days ago in Modena. Ravenna had the better start, deservedly won the opening set, then it gave a good fight but in the long run the talent of Modena meant they’re the ones to go through to the semi-finals. It’s been tough for Modena, not only because Ravenna played well but also because key players like Bruninho and Ngapeth showed their class only in flashes, while Petric had a poor outing. In spite of the financial problems which forced the club to play in Forlì, Ravenna had a positive season, they reached all their goals: Italian cup quarters, Challenge cup semi-finals and league playoffs.

Waldo Kantor (Coach CMC Ravenna): “I am happy with the season the boys had, they did very well in every competition. I am not as satisfied with this particular encounter because our level dropped too much after the first set”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Parmareggio Modena): “It’s been a tough game against a good team, it was not easy to seal the series in two games. Congratulations to my players, but I want to congratulate Ravenna too, they played too good games”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 2-3 (20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-23, 10-15) – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 2, Noda Blanco 3, Sket 21, Del Vecchio 8, Romiti (L), Bossi 7, Blagojevic, Hierrezuelo 8, Despaigne Jurquin 2, Torres 17, Piscopo 4. DNP Spirito, Porcelli. Coach. Di Pinto.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 15, Birarelli 13, Zygadlo 1, Nemec 5, Giannelli 6, Lanza 14, Solé 12, Colaci (L), Djuric 10, Fedrizzi 1, Burgsthaler. DNP Nelli, Thei. Coach. Stoytchev.

Molfetta played some good volleyball from the start while Trento found it a bit hard to settle in. A roller coaster of emotions filled this encounter as the hosts got back from a set down twice, only to lose in the tie-break as Trento stepped up a gear and took advantage as well of some mistakes from Molfetta. Thanks to this win, Trento goes through to the semi-finals, in which it will face the winner of Perugia versus Verona.

MVP: Raydel Hierrezuelo.

Raydel Hierrezuelo (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “It’s a shame to lose this way. In my opinion we played very well again today. The “Thank you” from the fans at the end left me speechless. This group is fantastic”.

Emanuele Birarelli (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We are very happy to have sealed the series early. We will have a bit of time to rest after an intense run of games between league and CEV Cup. Molfetta was a worthy opponent in those playoffs. I don’t have any preference between Verona and Perugia. Both teams have put together a quality roster to have a good run in the playoffs”.
