DIATEC TRENTINO – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-20)

DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 11, Antonov 10, Bratoev 1, Giannelli 5, Lanza 2, Solé 6, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 5, Urnaut 11. DNP Mazzone, De Angelis, Djuric, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev. EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 2, Spadavecchia, Randazzo 6, Mariella, Del Vecchio, De Barros Ferreira 4, Barone 2, De Pandis (L), Porcelli (L), Hierrezuelo 2, Fedrizzi 7, Hernandez Ramos 14. DNP Kaczynski. Coach. Montagnani.

A week of revenge for Trento. After getting one back on Modena after the cup final, they swept Molfetta, who had obtained a surprising though useless 3-2 win in the cup quarter-final return leg. This time, things have gone a lot differently: The hosts looked determined from the get-go and in spite of resting Djuric, and Lanza for most of the game, they cruised to victory thanks to an excellent attack (62%), all well-orchestrated by Giannelli. The blocking was imperial too (11 blocks). MVP Tine Urnaut (Diatec Trentino)

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Diatec Trentino): “I expected a tough game for various reasons, for the quality of our opponents and the number of games played in just a few days. But instead we played with determination, which allowed us to take control from the start with an effective attack and a focused work at the net. When we have a good lead, we manage to play better. The players have been both mentally and physically solid today. The ones who are usually coming off the bench proved that the hard work done all year long in the gym leads to such important performance. I’m talking about Nelli, who really did a great job”.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “In order to win In Trento like we had done in January in the Italian Cup, we would have had to play at a different level, especially in reception. We really struggled to cope with their serves, we made too many mistakes and not only on the serve, but in other areas too. We’re going through a difficult period in which we don’t play very well and can’t get the results we want”.

LPR PIACENZA – DHL MODENA 0-3 (20-25, 20-25, 19-25)

LPR PIACENZA: Coscione, Kohut 2, Ter Horst 7, Perrin 10, Papi 5, Patriarca 3, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 4, Luburic, Tencati 3, Tavares Rodrigues 1. DNP Sedlacek, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 4, Casadei 4, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 11, Nikic 10, Piano 6, Saatkamp 20, Vettori 1. DNP Donadio, Petric, Soli, Sartoretti, Bossi, Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Modena brushes aside Piacenza 3-0 in just an hour and a quarter. Thanks to those three points, Lorenzetti’s team is back at the top of the table tied with Civitanova. As for Piacenza, it stays stuck at the bottom with 7 points. Saatkamp was the killer of the game with 20 points and 77% in attack. MVP Lucas Saatkamp (DHL Modena)

Davidson Lampariello (LPR Piacenza): “Modena is an extremely strong opponent, it’s no big news. They have key players like Lucas and Bruno who can make the difference. They play with composure and that’s exactly what we’re missing. We have to keep working and try to find some confidence as soon as possible to register a few victories”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “You can see we have spent a lot of energy of late but the boys still did a great job of staying focused. The ones who came off the bench did well too. I’d like them to be ready every time I need them to come on”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-1 (19-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-20)

TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 10, Orduna 2, Giannotti 6, Balaso (L), Quiroga 2, Volpato 14, Averill 7, Berger 24, Milan 2. DNP Leoni, Bassanello, Diamantini, Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel, Kovacevic 16, Pesaresi (L), Gitto 5, Lecat 4, Spirito, Baranowicz 1, Bellei 3, Sander 16, Anzani 8. DNP Frigo, Starovic, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

The 16th Venetian derby goes to Padova. Trailed one set to nil, Baldovin fought back to take the game on a 3-1 score. Verona lost its way as the game wore on. They seemed to miss Starovic badly.  MVP Alexander Berger (Tonazzo Padova)

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “We had a great game at the net and in dig. From the second set on our serve got better and consequently our blocking, which made the difference today. Verona was without two of its main players, but this remains a top team. Tonight’s victory is a really important one for us, it will give us a big boost”.

Piero Rebaudengo (CEO Calzedonia Verona): “When we don’t maintain a certain level, we really look terrible. That’s exactly what happened today. There’s not much else to say. Tomorrow morning we’ll have a meeting and we’ll see if we need to take any decision”.

GI GROUP MONZA – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 2-3 (21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 9-15) – GI GROUP MONZA: Raic 22, Galliani 7, Jovovic 5, Rizzo (L), Botto 13, Verhees 17, Beretta 6, Zanatta Buiatti, Rousseaux 2. DNP Sala, Daldello, Mercorio, Brunetti, Gao. Coach. Vacondio.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 9, Fromm 17, De Cecco 6, Kaliberda 21, Giovi (L), Russell, Tzioumakas 1, Elia 5, Atanasijevic 17, Fanuli, Birarelli 2. DNP Holt, Dimitrov, Franceschini. Coach. Kovac.

Love and passion filled the arena on St Valentine’s day. Great applause for both sides who gave birth to a thrilling encounter. Perugia clinched it in the end but Monza can be happy with its team display too. In the fifth set, Perugia too an 8-6 lead and at the end of the sets back to back points from Kaliberda followed by a Buti play sealed it.  MVP Ivan Raic (Gi Group Team Monza).

Iacopo Botto (Gi Group Team Monza): “We knew it was going to be a very tough game, Perugia is a great team. They have really been effective for two sets at the net, and that had us vacillating. But we have been patient, we improved our game in the other sets and found solutions. Shame we lost the tie-break, we let it slip away, but we can be satisfied with our game, and by the atmosphere created by the fans too”.

Slobodan Kovac (coach Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “It’s been a difficult game, I cannot be totally satisfied. We have been too distracted. I wonder if we might have faced this game with our minds already thinking of coming commitments. Luckily we managed to get back on our feet in the tie-break, when we started to do what we had prepared again. The serve was the difference: we struggled to receive theirs while often ours has not worked as it should”.
