In spite of not having much court time, the contribution of setter Giacomo Leoni was very important in the qualifications for the World Championships Under 23 as he came on for little spells against Croatia, Poland and Bulgaria. As for spiker Giacomo Raffaelli, he played all five games and was especially influential in the win over Slovenia (16 points).
