SERIE A1 TIM

MACERATA DOMINANT

VIBO VALENTIA & FORLI GRAB AWAY WIN

In Macerata’s PalaFontescodella gym remained unscathed once more as the home team delivered a 3-0 win to its fans. This is what happened even in the toughest game the host had to play so far, against Cuneo. De Giorgi’s team imposed their rhythm early on, but Cuneo got back in it thanks to Nikolov and Wijmans’ powerful serves. Macerata, however, managed to contain these accelerations, pulling together with Valerio Vermiglio as the leader. The Italian international setter showed the way again to get out of trouble and manages to hide the little flaws that are still part of his team’s game. Twice Cuneo lost the race on the photo finish and then lost its way little by little. In the third, Macerata was authoritarian and its only fear came when Martin Lebl lied down on the floor as he’d bumped into Sebastian Swiderski.

The seventh round offered a couple of upset: Forli and Vibo Valentia came away from their trip with the victory. Forli interrupted the positive moment of Martina Franca, while Vibo Valentia managed to win in the PalaVerde, which represents its first ever victory over Treviso. This win makes up for the recent lack of results and confirms the improvements shown in the previous game. Treviso had 33 points from Alessandro Fei, who register the record of the season, but that was not enough for Treviso.

Modena seemed a different team at home as they stood firm against league meaders Trentino. Grbic and co did win the tie-break but that’s a crucial point that Modena managed to grab, as it will give them confidence. After last week’s defeat, Montichiari is back on track with a win against Pineto.

Andrea Giani (Trenkwalder Modena): “We keep making too many mistakes and for the level of play of Trento, we can’t afford it because it becomes decisive. Still, we played a good gale today”.

Stamplast Martina Franca – Yoga Forli 1-3 (23-25; 25-23; 23-25; 22-25)

Radames Lattari(Stamplast Martina Franca): “There are no excuses for this loss. After the win over Montichiari, we might have thought we could step up a level but instead we got punished by a team that wanted the win badly. They made the difference on the serve because in all the other areas of the game we did better. I hope we learned the lesson”.

Hubert Henno ( Yoga Forli): “We’re satisfied because this is a victory that could be a click for us psychologically. We played well in every department of the game and we had the patience to wait for our opponent to tire out. We knew we would have done well against a technical team like Martina”.

Renan Dal Zotto (Sisley Treviso): “It was a strange game, we started the first set very well, present and focused, then we faded away without any reason. We have to understand why, it was an important game for us but when they stepped up we remained passive, we did not manage to react. There was a good team on the other side, fair enough, they put us under pressure but we should have reacted. Instead it went all wrong”.

Flavio Gulinelli (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “It’s a pleasure to receive the compliments, we deserve them because this was a great game and a great victory. If a couple of things had not gone pear shaped in the second set, we could even have obtained a better result. Anyway, I’m satisfied, I wish we could always play this way, we won two games, against Piacenza and Treviso away from home, it seems like we have a feel for the big games. We should be playing at our best all the time because we proved we were a good team”.

Alessandro Paparoni (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “This is the second game I play, I struggled a bit in the first one. Physically I’m improving all the time, thanks to an exceptional medical staff, who helps me a lot. I’m really happy to be fit and improve in each training session, because this allow me to help my team on court, which unfortunately had not happened at Martina Franca. It definitely went better today”.

Paolo Montagnani (Framasil Pineto): “We had a good game, but in the end Montichiari’s technique and physical presence prevailed. We could have done better at certain moments and take a point out of it. I have to make a point about the referees. In my opinion today they ruined some exceptional plays and the game. Still, that’s not why we lost”.
