Serie A1

Round 10

Monza goes fourth thanks to win over Latina

The live game between Monza versus Latina was not broadcasted due to the bad weather conditions that hit the Italian territory yesterday.

Latina’s team had to deal with the same problem. It was blocked by the snow and travelled for 24 hours before reaching Monza.

Monza had the better of an exhausted Latina team who endured 14 hours of bus from Incisa to Vale D’Arno. Latina still fought hard especially in the second and third set but Monza acted as a real serial killer, inflicting Latina its fourth consecutive loss. Thanks to this victory,  Monza consolidates its fourth place in the table.

Daniele Sottile (Andreoli Latina): “This is a rather clear victory if you look at the score, but things were actually very tight. They won on just a few plays: They have definitely done a good job of taking their opportunities and on the counters. I think this was the difference”.

Konstantin Shumov (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We have really played as a team today. We had a couple of blackouts but we overcame them and I think we deserved to win. We are happy with the result, and it’s clear that our unity is our strength right now. We have another three games before the halfway point of the regular season and we’ll do our best to keep this positive streak going”.

World Club Championships

Trentino BetClic: Top spot at stake in last group phase game

The group phase of the Club World Championships will end on Sunday December 19 with Trentino versus Paul Mitchell, USA. A win would guarantee Stoychev’s team the first place and benefit therefore from an easier opposition in the semi-final. Three possible opponents could come at that stage: the polish side of Belchatow (the less probable because top of the other group right now), the Iranian team of Paykan (already met last year at the same stage) or the hosts of Al Arabi. The last two teams will meet tomorrow.

Radostin Stoytchev (Trentino BetClic): “The two points at stake are crucial because that would allow us to stay unbeaten in this first phase and get to the decisive stage with the best credentials possible. We want to avoid loss of concentration at all cost which is why we’ll put maximum effort. It’s also true that we have little time to rest between games in such events, so I don’t exclude the idea to rest some players, and send others on court, without, however, lower our level of play. It’s early to think about the semi-finals. We don’t even know at this stage which will be our opponent”.
